MIKE KOENIGS: How I Created $9 Million in One Week with Mobile Marketing (MUST WATCH)

Mike Koenigs talks with Allison Maslan about how he made $9 million in one week using mobile marketing. They cover turning smartphones into revenue tools and practical sales tactics for entrepreneurs looking to scale their businesses.
Welcome to Ali and you'd the business Success and lifestyle show. I am Alyson Maslin. My friends call me Ally. I'm a serial entrepreneur and a business growth mentor. And today you're going to learn how to turn this into a money cash machine. You do not want to miss it right here on Allie and you'd. Okay. I'm so excited to introduce to you an 11 time. 11 time number one best selling author. How does that happen? International speaker, serial entrepreneur, angel investor, filmmaker, patent inventor, and my dear friend Mike Koenigs, who is the world's leading marketer. If you want to be seen and heard everywhere, on your computer, on your device, you know, on billboards, on the corner, Mike is the guy. And he has earned nearly $50 million online. Through his strategies, he's helped over 50,000 customers, including me. I'm one of that 50,000 in 121 countries, which is just incredible. He helps people become best selling authors, highly paid coaches, consultants and advisors in demand speakers and information marketers. He's also a stage three cancer survivor. He's such a miraculous guy and I am really excited to introduce you to him. But before, before I do, I want to introduce you to my friend Darren Hardy who is the publisher of Success magazine and hear what he has to say about Mike Koenigs.
Hi, Darren Hardy here. You remember the movie Back to the Future? Well, Mike Koenigs is my Doc Brown, so to speak. Every time I need a little marketing or innovation boost, I go and visit this mad genius. One question or problem scenario unlocks his brain. 20 or 30 ingenious ideas pour out of it. Some are OMG, others are WTF. But there's always one, maybe even two that are worth a fortune. One time, while hanging out at his office, an idea fell out of his head. Took my database growth from 30,000 to over 800,000 in 14 months. Another time, while we were cruising on the San Diego bay in his boat, Mike inspired some marketing messaging and processes that were attached to one of my programs that generated over a million dollars in just three days. And I could say most recently, while we were toasting a great bottle of Cabernet together, he dropped another 30 ideas on me. Many were WTF, but a few were OMG and it contributed to a marketing automation process that today is generating over a quarter of a million dollars a week for my business. So yes, like Doc Brown, if you can get past the crazy outfits and the wild hair, Mike Koenigs is a brilliant marketing muse that can make you money.
So let's welcome. Mike Koenigs.
Oh, hi. How you doing there? I think I'm gonna not just call you Allie because your friends call you Ali. I'm call you Ali oop. Is that all right?
Ally oop. Why not? Yes, that's fine. Ali oop. Ali Cat. Ali Baba.
You know Ali Baba. Hello there, Ali Baba. Yes, it is nice to be here with you today.
So I'm so excited that you're here.
I'm excited to be here.
Yeah. And we've done some, several interviews in the past. And with Mike, because he's such an expert on so many things, we've talked about how to build your business, creating a number one best selling book and how to do that because you're an expert at that. We've talked about how to develop products and do online launches because you know how to do that and you're an expert. And today we're doing something brand new, that gerbil herding.
We're going to herd gerbils. I'm an expert gerbil herder. Did you know that?
I did.
Oh, yeah, yeah. I know it's very important.
Yeah. With gerbils. I know many of you were dying to learn how to herd gerbils. Thank you.
You're welcome.
And in addition to herding gerbils, we are going to learn how to turn this, your smartphone, into a cash machine.
Right on.
So excited about that. But before we do that, some of our, a few of our, one or two of our guests here that are watching, our viewers don't know who you are.
Okay.
Shockingly, I know. So let's give the backstory. How did you get into the marketing and personal growth space?
Well, I'd say the best way to start it up. I know you're looking at me like I'm going to say something else a little dangerous here, but I can handle it.
Bring it on.
All right. All right. Well, you know, I grew up lower middle class, basically a poor environment in south central Minnesota. And the number one phrase I heard growing up, because I was the oldest of four was we can't afford it. And there's two things I dislike strongly. One of them is cold weather, so I had to get the hell out of Minnesota. And the second one is I hate being poor and broke. I wanted to be rich, but the problem was I was horrible at school. I was sent to a Catholic school. And I do have issues with authority. I don't know where it came from, but I do. So I really just did not feel like I belonged there. Ever. So I started working full time when I was 16 years old, and I started inventing things and solving problems. That was the one thing I was good at is just fixing stuff, taking it apart and figuring out how it worked. And I taught myself how to program when I was 14 years old, and I saw that as my way out. And I wanted to write video games, so I started writing code. And eventually my dad, who's a barber, would talk about, yeah, my son, he likes computers. And then someone said, well, do you think he could come in and teach my secretary how to use this computer? We just got this brand new thing, and we don't know how to use it. So I started consulting and coaching and teaching people how to use their technology. And of course, anytime someone would say, well, do you know how to do that? I'd say, yeah. Then I'd figure it out, you know, like, I have no clue. But I just improvised. And, you know, one thing led to another, and pretty soon I was writing code and writing financial systems. And then I did eventually work for a video game company. I started one of the first interactive ad agencies called Digital Cafe. And that was back in the early, early days, pre web, it was early Internet, so there was Prodigy in America Online and that kind of thing.
But you set the intention that that's what you wanted to do, and it happened.
Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, bottom line, one thing led to another, and I discovered direct response marketing, which I bumped into a guy named Dan Kennedy, and I learned his stuff. I read his books and I learned how to write copy. And again, I barely could spell when I got out of high school. And I'm talking, like, barely got out of high school.
Right.
Never went to college, but to me, anytime I wanted to do something that involved helping people and making money, I figured out how to do it. So writing became necessary.
I think a common theme is that an entrepreneur doesn't fit in the lines.
Now we're broken people.
I know. I'm fine with it now, truly, but actually, that serves you, because you don't want to be thinking like everybody else. You want to say, you know, how can I create my own path, my own category?
Totally. Yeah, that's exactly. There's, you know, the pain of being unique and being the odd one out and being strange and weird and all that kind of stuff becomes a great asset later on. And the truth is, most really good entrepreneurs I know are severely adhd, which turns into a huge resource. Exactly, Rabbit. But, yeah, once you learn how to contain it, it becomes a remarkable tool. But it's just like you, you know, so along the way, I mean, you asked about the personal development, personal growth. At one point, I went through a divorce. I came home one day and my locks were changed on the door. I was $250,000 in debt. I was overweight, broke. I was paying my employees with credit card checks, and I was living on a gas card. St. Paul. 7th street in St. Paul. Super America Gas card. I was buying my groceries. That's all I had left. And I learned about Tony Robbins. I ended up getting personal power, too, going through all of his programs. And boom, six months later, my life had turned around. I was selling my first company.
Yeah. So here you are. You kind of hit bottom. And others would look at that and say, wow, there's no way out. But you, you know, you grabbed the reins and said, I gotta work with you.
I still wasn't rich and I was still cold. I had to get the hell out of that place. That was it.
Well, I grew up in Oklahoma, so we had winners, too, man.
And you had banjos, too.
Yeah, well, exactly. No, it's accordion.
I got it, I got it. I'm just sort of like, you gotta, you gotta. It's just, we have to work with it.
I know. All right. We made it work.
Banjos, accordions.
We're both a little weird, you know.
So you're not. I'm.
Well, you are. So let's talk about making some money.
No. What, are we going to transition? No, we're not going to transition. Not yet.
No.
No, go ahead.
So you reinvent yourself all the time. I love that. So now you've got, you know, as I said before, we talk about. We've talked about product launches and all of those things. Let's talk about what is hot for you this year.
Sure. Well, you know, we live in very, very fascinating times, for sure. Politically, for sure. I mean, if you just look at it, we live in a popularity driven culture and world now more than ever before, where the way I look at it, if you think of Facebook as a gigantic roll of toilet paper, it you flip your thumb and as soon as you're off one ply, it's already in the toilet. It's like the news is gone. And so it's like whatever is now instantaneous, immediate. And on one hand that's a giant pain, and on the other hand, it can be a great opportunity. So I think the net net is we live in a popularity driven culture where everything is like driven. And in a way, it's always Been that way. But now everyone has the ability to create news and create content with their mobile phones. Right, Right. So. So to me, the biggest opportunities right now, and what really gets me excited is the ability to manufacture celebrity. And celebrity's always been manufactured, but now anyone can do it for themselves and become incredibly powerful and profitable and popular in a matter of weeks or months, if they hit the right timing, the right message, figure out the right market, you know, and again, it's not like that's ever been different, but I think the velocity that it happens at is different now and that's why it's different.
And you're not dependent on somebody else. It's really up to you.
Exactly. You're not dependent on any channels. Exactly. So I think that's one of them. And then we also live in the world of drones. We're pretty soon between self driving cars and the fact that I just read that in Dubai you're gonna be able to have a personal drone that'll pick you up, take you somewhere completely self driving this little pod. You, you know, like next year they're gonna start flying them. So.
So I was dreaming, you know, because I drive back and forth to LA all the time to do my trapeze and I hadn't eaten anything and I was stuck on the 405 for like three hours and I was starving. So I thought wouldn't that be cool if like the. You could take your order in your car and then the drone would like drop food into your.
Just open up the motor. Yeah, exactly. You'd have some Jetsons music.
I think that's gonna happen.
It is. It's so close. Well, Amazon's doing it already in Europe. They're delivering stuff to your field next to you. You know, it's like so, you know, there's so much fascinating stuff happening right now.
Yeah.
I think it's the greatest moment ever to be alive.
I think so too.
And you wouldn't know the difference if you were dead. That's the truth. Exactly. So you got that going for you.
It matters. But we are alive, so let's.
Very alive.
Very, very alive. It's a good thing.
It is.
Feels good every single day. And. And you're always amazing me because you come up with these new strategies, new ways to break through. And one of the things that, you know, I'm working with business owners all the time to help them grow their business, like you. And many of them, the idea of selling, they struggle with it. They're inventors, they're creatives. They're brilliant with the ideas. Some of them are great at sales and they're natural. And then the others that it just like they stop short and then they're, you know, then they're, where's the cash in the bank? Because we know you must have sales to grow your business.
Forget to sell. One day you're out there, you're making all this stuff and then you're like, but, but, but I have to sell this stuff.
Yeah. Gosh, what minor little niche. So what are you gonna do? Well, I'm hoping you've got some answers here today.
I have some great stuff for you. I came very prepared. I did. I spent a lot of time getting ready for you today.
I'm so impressed. Thank you, thank you. Aren't you impressed with this guy? All right, so let's. So tell us you've got this, you know, turning your smartphone into a six figure money making machine.
Yeah. So, yeah, maybe the way I'll set this up is number one, we're going to talk about where you already have high quality people ready to receive your message and want to buy things from you if you put the right thing in front of them. So there's a whole strategy and, and then if you have no online marketing at all, almost no money, maybe you're horrible at selling and you don't know where to begin. So I like to cast the wide net. Right? Yeah, it's like how you can make money in like 72 hours from deciding you want to make some money.
You guys ready for this? Start taking notes.
All right, so I think the frame. And here's the good news. We will make sure you get this quick start guide and I'll tell you where to go get that in a little while that goes through this whole process. And then we can role play too because I think really there's a couple little ideas to get across. First of all, the first one is we know that attention spans are shorter than ever before. And I love quoting this, it was research published by Microsoft reported in Times magazine that the average attention span of human beings had dropped from 12 seconds to 8 seconds. And a goldfish has a 9 second attention span that's as of the year 2000. So we live in that world where everyone's sitting here staring at their phones and like, I mean, they believe everything that's saying.
So we could create some very successful goldfish. Really?
Exactly. Exceptionally so. Because just think of the cumulative effect of all those additional seconds and what that could do. Yes. But let's say that that's number one. Number two is when you receive a text message, statistically speaking, the average person reads and responds to it 96% of the time within 10 minutes. So what if there were a way, with no technology other than your smartphone, to be able to engage someone and get their interest, then be able to get them to actually take action and buy?
That would be a very cool thing.
There we go.
Yeah. And that is. I mean, you're saying that this is something too for people that don't have any sales experience or any list marketing experience.
Right. So the way this would work. Let's just start with the. Where are the leads gonna come from? So I'm gonna start with one lead generation strategy. And then when we get through some of the role playing in the scripting, I'll talk about another place where there is a fortune in opportunity and leads that a lot of people completely ignore.
Okay.
And it's. It's kind of brain dead stupid simple. But that's what makes the most money. Right? It's like when we just erase all the complicated stuff we build in all these ways. We're always thinking, oh, it has to be so complicated. We have to have. It's like, no, you just need to close deals.
Exactly.
All right.
The simpler the better for me.
Okay, so here's what step one is. First of all, you grab a pen, piece of paper, notebook. So I'll just pull up my handy pen, Right? Here we go. And what you want to do is you put your phone in airplane mode. So you just flip it up and set a timer for 20 minutes. And I like 20 minutes because it's achievable and anyone can carve out 20 minutes and no one's going to die 20 minutes from now. Especially if you ignore your. Your Facebook and your email and your chat.
If you don't have 20 minutes, then you need to get a lot, then.
You really need to make 20 minutes. I've heard this. This is a great line. I heard it from. I think it was Russell Simmons or Rick Rubin, which is if you think you don't have time to meditate, then you really need to meditate. Yeah, okay.
Exactly. That's the point.
It is. So what you do then is you look through your text messages. I don't know about you. I never erase my text messages. I have years of them. In fact, I have all the text messages from when I got my first iPhone, whenever that was 2007. 2007.
Do you have all my text messages?
I can go back. Oh, yeah, baby, all those nasty messages. Oh, yeah. So exactly. I'm just joking with our friends at home, you know? So, okay, so what you do is you start whizzing by and, you know, you go by, let's say, the last week or so, because those are all the people you're chatting with all the time.
Yeah.
But once you get to, like, two months and then go backwards, there are people in there that you met, you connected with you, and that person had every intention of following up with one another, and you didn't. You just forgot. And you're like, this is why we turn off the phone in the first place. Because if you don't, you're gonna be like, oh, my God, I forgot about that. It's like, no panicking allowed. But what you do is you find that person and you write their name down and you give them a rating on a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is someone who is highly motivated, you know what challenges they have, and there's something that you could help them with. Okay. So we'll call them qualified. You like them, they like you. And if you had the right strategy, you could activate them again. Right. So then what you do is you just continue until the timer ends. And the exception being if you're on a roll and you're like, oh, my God, I can't believe how much money and opportunity is here. You just keep on going. Okay? Give yourself another 20 minutes or 10 minutes, whatever it is. Okay?
No rules there.
But the key is you just repeat that and you don't get distracted. You don't panic. You make an agreement with yourself. Okay? And then the step two is there. Is what we call a micro engagement strategy.
Okay.
So I'm going to give you some of the. And they're micro commitments is what we call them. And here's the basic idea. Whenever you send a text message, what's great about them is if you send a message, you can see when someone is replying to you. Right. You see that little dippity dot thing showing up.
Yeah.
Kind of cool. It is.
And then you're like, what are they.
Going to say right now? Here are the most important things to realize about all of marketing, all of advertising. And that is the hardest thing in the world to do, is get someone's attention after you get their attention. It's earning their trust.
Right.
Right now. And if you think about it statistically, because you and I email a lot of time, someone who has a extremely responsive email list is probably getting opened maybe 20% of the time. If they're really. And the truth is, if you're using off the shelf stuff, you ain't getting that. Okay, let's just be honest. If you have a big ass list, you're lucky if you're getting a 12% open rate. Okay.
Right.
And then your click through rate might be like 20%. Maybe, maybe 15, 10, 15. If you're really good, you've really trained people and you're providing a lot of great content. So if you, you know, let's just look at that. Statistically you mail to a third people, you're lucky if, let's say 150 open. And out of that, you're lucky if maybe 30 clicked through. Statistically speaking. That's horrible.
Yeah, that's pretty bad.
Yeah. So what if you look back and you found this list and we found someone and let's call that certain someone. I don't know, let's come up with someone in your world right now that we're going to help out a little while. Someone who needs to get their foot in the door.
Okay. Let's call this person Robin.
Okay, Robin. So if I went and I knew Robin, and again, we're going to role play in a little while, I'd say, hi, Robin, checking in. Do you need anything from me today? Boom. Sent that message.
Okay.
Now Robin will probably remember who you are and maybe if you were at an event where you met that person or you had a little exchange, it's like, hey, it's really nice meeting you, Robin. Talk. And what do you do? What do you do? And it's like, hey, let's take a little selfie. This is why we always want to take selfies.
Yes.
But you might send a picture of you and Robin from when you met. Checking in. Do you need anything from me today?
Yeah.
Boom. Now, let's say in my experience, Most people in 20 minutes are actually going to come up with a minimum of twenty, probably a hundred connections.
Right. I mean, it's true when we go to networking events or we go to events all the time, I really don't pass out business cards anymore. I'm using the iPhone. And we take a picture or we share or text each other.
Right on.
Yeah.
And then you forget. Right?
Yeah.
So I'm telling you, 20 to 100 is really, it's hundreds when you do this, but what you do is you go through and you send out, let's say 10 of those messages. Hey, checking in, Robin, do you need anything from me today? Another one might be, hey, Robin, are you still interested in getting your foot in the door? Okay. Another one was. Hey, Robin, I was just looking through my phone and found this picture of us from the blah, blah, blah. I was thinking about you. How are things?
Oh, I love.
Oh, these are so yummy.
Yeah, he actually has it scripted for you.
Micro commitments. We have more, but those are three yummy ones. Okay. And there's a ton of psychology between how they're phrased and worded as well. But here's what's going to happen if they're next to their phone because there's a no commitment response. It's like, hey, just thinking about you too.
Right.
But here's what happened. I know you're there. I got your attention, I got your engagement, and we're already at a high level of trust. Yes. So attention and trust are almost impossible to get in our Facebook toilet paper world and popularity driven contest world that we live in today.
Right. And let's just say also, you're not trying to sell them anything there. You're just checking in. Hi, how are you?
That is exactly right. So it's find, tickle, and activate. We've already done the three out of the four steps. Now we all have to close them. Okay. So as of now, we have their attention, we have their interest, we're engaged and they're curious. So what's going to happen next? All right, well, we've got, like I say, we've already got a level of trust here. And I'm going to. When we get into this, it's really.
Good that you remember them. Right. And they're like, oh, exactly.
It's a little present. So what we do is we send a one minute activation and diagnosis video. Okay.
Okay.
Now, I've already written one, but. But I could make one up right now just for Robin, if you wanted me to do that.
Okay.
So let's say again, you're Robin and you're a coach, you're a consultant, you're a small business owner, an entrepreneur, and one of your biggest challenges is getting your foot in the door. How are you going to meet the perfect customer? Okay. How are you going to get your foot in the door in front of customers that you want to charge two or three times more? You want to multiply your revenue, your income, and get their attention 100% of the time? That's our goal. So what you do is you pull out your little phone, we put it in video mode, and I will actually do this right now. Right. And I'm gonna do my mock version, which would be. I'll just hold it up like this and go. Hey, Robin, I'm so glad you responded. I've been thinking about you and I've got an idea. Remember that one time when we were together and you told me that you're really struggling to get your your foot in the door with ideal prospects and customers and also working with customers who can afford you that want to engage with you right away? So I've been thinking about you and if you'd like, I've got a perfect solution for you. Just reply right now and I'll send you a little short video that will describe exactly what it is. Or if you want, I just finished a call. I've got five minutes right now before my next call and that's more than enough time for. For us to have a quick conversation. Just let me know and respond. Alright, talk to you soon. Okay. That was 40 seconds.
You smiled and everything.
Everything all right?
Yeah, that was great. Now I love that because it's kind of a teaser. I have the solution. Then you're going to be like dying to know what is the solution.
Yeah, Right on.
Love it.
Exactly. So. And guess what? I didn't talk about me or my stuff once. This is the core of this thing is. And this again is an activation process. That's why I call this the activation and even a diagnosis video. So really what's going on in here is. Remember when we were talking and you told me you were struggling with blank, blank, blank. Now there's a really important phrase. I heard this years ago. Can't remember who came up with it, but he or she who diagnoses the disease was. Will be the first to be trusted to prescribe the cure. Okay, yeah, Guess what? I've already got you over the edge. Here's something else. I'm gonna give you the deeper level. There's like 10 layers of psychology here. But I said, do you remember when you told me blang, blang and blang. Okay, now Robin's gonna remember that. She told me that I'm responding back with accurate data.
Right, okay. And she's gonna go, wow, she remembered that about her.
Exactly. I am important enough that felt heard. Right? Precisely. Oh yeah, right. To a woman's heart. Exactly. Oh. Feeling heard and understood. Oh, bless you. But it's true. Everyone is that way. Men and women. But what happened is now I have your ego and your identity attached to what you said. You're not going to squirm out of that and go, yeah, I didn't say that. No, way. Okay, so at this point she has basically said, I want what you have. She responds, and remember, I've already got her attention. So the fact is, again, statistically speaking, to engage someone with, let's say, a Facebook ad. Now we all know right now if you've done any Facebook advertising, a click is going to cost anywhere from 30 cents to a buck and a half, sometimes more precisely. And then the number of leads. So someone sees your ad, clicks on something and then opts in. You're running anywhere from 10 to maybe 30% online with cold traffic. Okay, so let's just call it 10%. So it's not uncommon to spend around 12 to 15 bucks a lead. People I know who are spending a lot of money right now and really have things dialed in are getting their leads around five or six bucks in general. Alright, so then if you're following up with some generic messaging and that kind of thing, the bottom line is closing a deal online once you have your funnel set up is usually going to cost you a couple hundred dollars, anywhere from 200 to 500 bucks. That's just the way it is.
Right.
So right now, statistically speaking, I've done something that would probably cost you $10,000 to do if you got 10 people to respond. And remember, you can do this all at once. You could do everything with 10 people in 10 minutes.
And it's customized, personalized and you know, especially if you're gonna do a higher dollar deal right on is much harder.
Yeah, but we're gonna get to the point place where we can absolutely mechanize this too. It's possible to do it without personalizing anything but your first message. Just the first one. Remember when we met and we talked about blank. Okay, all right, so now we're going to send the one minute pitch and close video. And again, just full disclosure, I'm going to give you not only the sheet, but a book filled with a whole bunch of scripts that you can model. Okay.
Yes, you're going to want to get that for sure.
So I can do two different ones. But let's continue on with the Robin example. So again, I'm going to make this up on the fly, but it'll be reason, you know, we'll do. All right, do two different ones. But let's continue on with the Robin example.
Okay.
All right, so I'm gonna again, I'm gonna make this up on the fly, but it'll be reason, you know, we'll do. Alright, so here we go. And again, if she responds, she'd Say, hey, I just want to talk to you. And then we pick up the phone. It'd be the same conversation. But in general, I've used exactly what I'm about to do to close two to $70,000 deals. 10 minutes, end to end. Okay.
Wow.
From the time I sent the first message until they were like, you're gonna.
Do this right away, right?
Bam. Right on. Alright, so here it goes. Alright, Robin, I'm super excited that you said yes. And you want to know what this is, so I'm going to just reveal exactly what it is. And that is what you need to do is become a best selling author and use books to get your foot in the door. And here's why. Now, first of all, I'll show you a simple process. And I've helped over a thousand people become best selling authors over the past 10 years, actually four years. And I've written 11 books myself. So the cost of a book to print is about 2 bucks. And what I do is actually buy my own book. I send it to someone using Amazon prime and I have it gift wrapped. So it bypasses the gatekeeper, it goes straight to that person. And think about it. When's the last time you ever ignored a box from Amazon? Probably never, right? When's the last time someone like you received a box from Amazon and your personal assistant opened it and saw something gift wrapped? Has your personal assistant ever opened up one of your presents? No. Okay, so that's the big idea is for less than five bucks you can get a personalized message that is your book in front of someone and in the gift card include a short link to a video just like the one I'm showing you right now. So all that and I can show you exactly, step by step how to make this happen and how to become a best selling author in less than 30 days. In fact, I've helped helped hundreds of people become best selling authors in as little as three days using my system. Okay. So if you want to learn more, just visit this link@www.link.com or just give me a call and say I'm in and I'll make it happen for you. Alright, I'll talk to you soon. All right. That was a minute and a half.
So I kind of winged it. That was great.
But you get the idea, right? Yeah, but again, I personalized it. I made it all about her and I overcame her primary challenge and I made it simple. Again. I could include the price, but generally I don't even want to include that. I'm just Going to say here's the link. Now if I include the buy link there, she might be okay, screw it, I'm in.
Right. And they take you tailor it obviously to your own business. Yes, Whatever that hook is.
Yeah. If you think about it a little bit. And in my experience, most of us, if you boil down the sales conversations, the objections you handle, generally speaking, most, most businesses have about three primary customers and they overcome three or four primary objections. So that's a total of maybe three to seven follow up videos. And the opening is, hey, I'm really glad you responded to the video. Here's what I got for you. So you pick and you send one of the seven.
Yeah.
Okay. Now you can give this to an assistant, have a separate phone set up, or I've got a service that I use that lets you automate this completely and we'll give everyone access to try it out for free too.
Okay.
Pretty simple.
I love it.
So that's the basic process again. Step number four is the one minute pitch video. And then again on the little cheat sheet, I've got a couple more activation and pitch videos. So you can structure it around whatever your business is.
Hey, I love the strategy also that you shared with the book too. Because the point of, you know, I mean, my assistant, they'll open things for me sometimes, but no one ever opens a present or a gift wrap and how to get that. And it doesn't cost much at all.
So if you, when like. So here's again, I'll kind of go down the little rabbit hole. This book is 95 pages long. We're giving it to you free, by the way. But the reason. So here's what we know about books. Books that are 90 pages or shorter have an 80% chance of being read all the way through. Books that are 120 pages or longer have a less than 30% chance of being read all the way through. Books that exceed 200 pages are single digits. We're talking like 3 or 4%. So you're better off with frequent short books than long ones. This thing end to end. Look, I did one of my last events and because it's all about writing books, I finished, I wrote this whole book in three days.
That's incredible. And I love that you did this on one strategy.
That's the way you want to do it.
Drilled it down.
Yep. It's foot in the door, whatever. So again, each of the strategies, techniques, or whatever it is, you overcome an objection for your highest and best probable audience. Solve that one problem and put that in their hands and say, here it is. So in this case, again, if we go down the rabbit hole, what I did with this is you go right from the book to a video that teaches the whole process, and then I include all the scripts and then invariably people be like, oh, yeah, this is awesome. What else does Mike have? So then I put people through my automated funnels.
Right.
But you can sell the book, you can give it away. I don't care. You know, I'm not making money off the royalties. I'm making money. Every time I give away a book, I make a hundred bucks.
Right? Yeah, well, it's a door opener.
Precisely.
Exactly.
Yeah.
And so with this, you know what you're doing with your smartphone, that would be like if you're trying to get past the gatekeeper. Right. And that's cause we, you know, a lot of Our clients are B2B and they struggle with that.
Yep.
So, you know, you're just, you're bypassing all of that and just catching their attention. The phone is sitting right there.
Yep. And if you take this next step further, again, you can adapt this right inside your book and say, hey, look, if you want to connect with me right now, just send a quick message. Send help to my phone number. Okay. And it might be like, I have a phone number in here. Like one of them that I have is send the word try it to. And I have a phone number where they can try out a mobile text marketing service. Okay. So you put that right in the front of. Again, we're going down the book path right now. But on the first page, I say free bonus training. Go here. And here's how you can close four, five and six figure deals. I give you free training. First page. Here's why. If someone, let's say, finds my book and then opens up the try it inside and sees this, then goes to my website and registers for, let's say, a free webinar. Do I care if they buy the book?
No, not at all.
I care about the list. So what you can do ethically is never even sell your book. And Amazon will promote it for you and send free traffic right to your webpage pages. Okay.
Yeah.
So that's just another way to do this.
So this guy is like exploding with genius.
So do you want to know how to find and build another gigantic high value list or do you want to. You asked me some other questions.
Yes.
So here's this other idea. And this is one of those things. I knew it, but I wasn't conscious of it. Until I did the math in my head. So here's the big idea. Think about it. Let's think about it from your point of view. You spend a fortune marketing and putting together events. How many events a year do you do?
We do two big open to the public events that cost, you know, more than a couple hundred thousand dollars to produce. Right, right. And then. And then other events for our clients as well.
And you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to fill up the room. An enormous amount of mental energy. You and I have known each other long enough. I've seen you while you're filling up your events and you're all over, you know, you're ready to, you know, because they're harder than hell to do. So the level of risk you have, you've got your brand risk, your social risk, your financial risk in it, and you're praying that everything comes together and there isn't some, you know, environmental disaster on the day of the event, too.
Yeah, that happens.
So let's think about that from another point of view, which is a trade show event or an association event. So you can get into most events for anywhere from free to a couple hundred bucks if you do a VIP thing. Let's call it $1,000. Okay. Travel, all in a grand. Let's say we go to Vegas. Now, I was at an event not long ago, and I walked on the floor and I don't know, cost me a couple hundred bucks. So every single person at the event has invested hundreds or thousands of dollars to be there. The event producer, promoter spent hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to put this on. And there are people with desks and booths who spent 8,000, 10,000, $30,000 plus time and business away. And they expect results. They're fully invested. Right. So if we just walk around and have a brief conversation and be like. And maybe I bumped into you while you were in a breakout session or you were watching a speaker or. Or you're actually manning a booth. And our conversation was simply, hi. We get into rapport. Hi, what's your name? I go, so, what's the biggest challenge that you're having right now? With blank. And you tell me what it is. Be like, that's interesting. So what do you do? What do you do? By the time it's done with a few questions, again, they're all in the book here. I have my whole diagnostic process.
I like that you bring that in about the challenge because you're going to be able to use that later.
Exactly. Remember, at the event, when you Told me me your biggest challenge is that, well, I've got an idea for you. So what I do is, here's the way I do. And they'll say, well, do you have a business card? And I go, actually, I don't have a business card. But what I'm going to do is I either walk around with a little form and here's the way I frame it, I say, let's face it, you're going to give me a business card, I'm going to give you a business card and then we're going to forget, we're never going to follow up. So what I'm going to do is you're important to me. I'm going to take a quick selfie with you and me so we remember who we are. And I might even go something like this. I can either do a video or a selfie. I'd say, alright. So, Ali, this is Mike. We just met at the Diddly Boop a Doop a Doop event. And it's great meeting you at the Diddly Oopy Doopy Boop event. And remember you're telling me that right now you're having some challenges getting your foot in the door and working with clients who you meet at events. So I'm gonna. I understand. I really don't.
I feel so hurt.
Exactly. And I've heard you and I'm very sensitive to your feelings. So what's important here is I've got a couple ideas. I'll follow up with you with those. And I know exactly how you can increase your sales by two or three times from this live event. Does that sound okay to you?
I cannot wait. Yes, definitely.
Good deal. So we do that and then I might even do a little quick photo like this. Let's just take a quick selfie. Great. Now I got everything I need. So when I'm at an event, I'll follow up the exact same way. The other thing I might do is, while I'm there, I'll find a corner.
This is brilliant. This is truly brilliant. I hope you guys are watching this closely. You know you will never attend an event the same way.
Well, thank you for that, Allie. I feel heard and understood. Ali oop Ali oop Ali oop deoop. Alright, so I might set up a little video. I'll find the branding from the event. Hey Ali, this is Mike. We're at the Ali oop de Doop event and I was just meeting with you a little while ago. I just want to remind you I've got some Big ideas. I will follow up with you right after the event. And it was so nice spending a little bit of time with you. And we talked about the whole idea of just following up and being able to close those deals that you're struggling with and getting your foot in the door. I know for a fact I can help you out. I'll talk to you soon. Okay.
Boom.
20 seconds.
You are not going to be. No one will forget you. Right.
When's the last time someone followed up with you at an event with a personalized video? Right.
Never.
When's the last time someone actually remembered what you talked about at an event?
Yeah. I mean, you can be. You talk and you're like, oh, yeah, I'm going to get together. And, you know, oftentimes you might follow up with.
Ain't gonna happen. Right. So think about this. Just let's put this in context. People are under the mistaken impression that they need an audience and a list of tens of thousands. I don't have a list. I don't have a database. I'm not doing any Facebook marketing. Look, you can walk into one event, meet 30 people that you actually spent. No, look, you qualify them and you ask the questions. I've got all the little questions and how to diagnose. But you'll walk away with everything you need to do. If you found 20 people who you qualified and you did just that, you're going to close half of them. Okay. You don't need an office. You don't need sophisticated anything. You just a stupid mobile phone.
Yeah. It's incredible. And there's no business that this. I mean, it would work for any business.
We're talking two events a year. You can close a half million dollars worth of business and keep almost all the money because you don't need anyone else doing your work for you. Okay?
Right.
What am I doing anyway? Yeah, but. So that's the basic outline of the process.
Yeah. I love it.
I made it just for you.
Exciting.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right. I'm gonna do works like crazy. I have closed more, so I closed a $30,000 day coaching deal with this. Okay. In 10 minutes. Okay. You don't need an office. You don't need sophisticated anything. You're just a stupid mult phone.
Yeah, it's incredible. And there's no business that this. I mean, it would work for any business.
We're talking two events a year. You can close a half million dollars worth of business and keep almost all the money because you don't need anyone else doing your work. For you. Okay.
Right.
What am I doing? Okay. Anyway.
Yeah.
But I also closed a $16,000 coaching day with a $10,000 jet upsell. In other words, we do. When we do a mastermind, we rent the jet. And I just said, hey, I've got an idea, and it's a great way we can spend a little extra time together. We boop, boop, boop. Send him the video. He said, I'm in. 9,600 bucks.
That's incredible.
Okay.
Wow.
It's crazy stuff.
All right, you guys can do this too. So we're gonna put the link below so that you can get this and get Mike's book and all that good stuff.
Yes.
Right. So pay attention. It's right there for you. And, gosh, this is so exciting.

Yeah. I love it.
I made it just for you.
Exciting.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
I'm gonna do.
Works like crazy. I have closed more. So I closed a $30,000 day coaching deal with this in 10 minutes. Do one more. Great strategy. How you can meet anyone.
Just when we thought that.
No, I'm gonna give you one more. So I'm gonna genuinely sign this for you.
Hi. So honored.
And I'm gonna put oop in parentheses here.
Okay.
And I'll say, so. Great. I also closed a $16,000 coaching day with a $10,000 to be on your show. Now, one of the other most effective strategies. Let's say you're at one of these live events, and let's say you have happen to have written a book. If you want to meet the biggest, most important VIP while you're at the event, you sign the book. Hi. So. And so I have an idea that will help you grow your business at upsell. In other words, we do. When we do a mastermind, we rent a jet. Put your name, your email address, or I have an idea that will help you. 9,600 bucks.
That's incredible.
Okay.
Wow.
Crazy stuff.
All right, you guys can do this, too. So we're gonna put the link below so that you can get this and get Mike's book and all that good stuff.
