This is a YouTube video titled "Reinvention Expert on How to Use Your Setbacks to Find Your Purpose (MARSHAWN EVAN DANIELS)" featuring a conversation between Allison Maslan and Marshawn Evans Daniels recorded in March 2018. Allison Maslan hosts the episode, interviewing Marshawn Evans Daniels, a reinvention strategist, life coach, and author of "Believe Bigger." They discuss Marshawn's personal and professional journey, including overcoming adversity, embracing disruption, and finding purpose. The conversation covers themes of faith, healing, leadership, and empowerment for ambitious women, with Marshawn sharing insights from her book and coaching work.
Hi, everyone, it is Alison Maslin and we are sharing an episode of Ally and you today a little bit early because I am so excited to share with you and introduce to you a dear friend of mine. And she happens to be on the east coast. And so we wanted to make sure that this was a good time for her. And also it's going to give some of you an opportunity that don't get a chance to watch our show live to do that today. So. Hi, Marshawn, how are you?
I'm good. I'm also inviting people to come in so they can see this powerful conversation. I'm so delighted to be with you. I'm a little jealous of all the colors you have though in the background.
I know this. We. I'm in my office in San Diego, actually, in Cardiff by the sea. And we call this place the Happy place. So actually every single wall in my office, Marshawn, is a different color.
Wow.
So we're kind of the mod squad over here.
With intention I love. Funny thing is, as I was straightening up my kitchen, as I've been out of town for a week, I saw a post it note that I wrote the Power of Atmosphere just this morning. So you embody that for sure. But thank you so much for having me.
Oh, I'm so excited you're here. And I want to do a formal introduction, but I was thinking about it today. When we first met was at that infusionsoft event, remember? And we just totally hit it off. And that was, was that like four years ago, Five years ago, I judged.
Everything by whether or not I was. It was probably 2012 or 13.
Yeah. So we've stayed in touch since then. And you know, when I saw that you were coming out with this book and how profound it is, I thought, oh my gosh, I have got to share all that you're up to, all of your gifts and talented talents with our, with our fans here. And so let me just go ahead and jump in. And so people are like, who is this woman? So Marshawn Evans Daniels is a reinvention, strategist and life coach, mentoring women around the world to live bolder in life and in business as a serial entrepreneur, TV personality, creator of the godfidence movement, and founder of she Profits. She helps women turn ideas into income and inspiration into action. And wait till you hear all of the things that Marshawn has done. It's incredible. A former sports attorney, a Miss America finalist and competitor on the Apprentice. Oh, my goodness. She left a high powered law firm and turned her passion for people into a multi million dollar enterprise. Appearing regularly on cnn, Fox Business and espn. Her clients have ranged from Rolls Royce, hpe, Nike, Home Depot, Ernst and Young to everyday dreamers like us to find their voice and maximize their potential. So wow, Marshawn. And now of course we have to add to that the number one best selling author of Believe Bigger. So. And you have that. Woohoo. So exciting. Well anyway, welcome. Thank you Allie. And you. And so if I know you have, your story is so profound. So let's just start off with that so people can know about you and how the heck you got here.
Yes. So I think I cut out for just a second. You said story and I wasn't sure which if you were talking about the book story or my professional story.
Your backstory, Your professional story.
Sure. Well, I am a lawyer by trade. I went to Georgetown for law school and ended up moving to Atlanta from Washington D.C. to practice law with one of the biggest law firms in the world. And was thinking that that was going to be like the creme de la creme of opportunities because everybody wanted this opportunity. And at about a year and a half into my law firm I feeling that tug. And I'd always been an entrepreneur. I had been in the Miss America competition and one of the ways I paid my way through law school was teaching Miss America Miss USA contestants public speaking and training skills. Today we would call it branding. Back then we just called it presentation. Right as I was sitting in my office thinking that I had arrived because I had a BlackBerry, which at the time that was a really big deal. Sitting on the 21st floor of this high rise building. I remember looking outside and seeing everybody else live their life and wondering like what was really so great about making a lot of money but not getting to actually enjoy each day. And so that tug was pulling at me. And when I had gotten fired on the Apprentice, I was on 10 out of the 13 weeks. I had this desire to work with pro athletes, but I didn't know how it was going to come to pass. And so when I started feeling that tug, part of it was wanting to represent pro athletes. But I was very baby lawyer firm said that I wasn't seasoned enough to be able to do it. So I went, I started my own agency. I signed the highest paid defensive end in the NFL as my first client. He had just signed a $62 million seven year deal and my agency just grew. I'm managing NFL and NBA players. I'm in my 20s and then I meet this man as well. And I'm engaged. I've got a book out called Skirts in the Boardroom, published by Wiley, which I know is your publisher that you'll have your next book come out with. So everything was great. And on top of all of that, I'm going to be able to be a bonus mom to his three children. So I have this background in sports and in law and I've been a speaker, professional speaker for a long time. Love, motivating people. And I felt like finally outside of just accomplishment, I finally found love. And so I'm very. You couldn't pinch me, Alison, and told me that it was going to get any better. But then things changed. Things changed pretty dramatically. But I'll leave it right there. But that's kind of where things were when I decided that even not by my own choice, I wouldn't say I decided to make a shift. I would say that shift found me in that situation.
Yeah. So, wow, you, you know, I know those moments in life and I had that in my 20s too, you know, a real workaholic. Mine was driving by the beach and looking out at people going, how do they get to do that? You know, here I am living by the beach and never getting to go the beach. Here you're in this high rise looking out, going, wow, the world is going on and I'm not living it.
Not living it. I mean, I remember I would leave my house so early in the morning because there's so much work to do and it was dark out in the morning and then I would come back out, come back at night and it was still dark. And being a big firm lawyer, the number of billable hours and you know, I was very well paid. But there something about being an entrepreneur. I've always been an entrepreneur. I think sometimes once you've had a taste of that, it's very difficult to go back to structure. And I was trying to be, I think maybe intrapreneurial within the law firm, saying, hey, we've got athletes that are reaching out to me now. Mind you, I had just been on the biggest business reality show ever called the Apprentice, a few weeks into me starting at this law firm. So not only does everybody in all eight offices around the world know my name, I'm doing television, I'm doing more speaking engagements. And now I'm also meeting this high net worth clientele that's asking for me to be their lawyer. And so naturally I said, well, my firm has got the resources, we can do your intellectual property, we can do estate planning. We can handle litigation issues. And there's some what. What will happen, I think, to a lot of people, is your ideas can be too big for the environment that you're in. And there's structure. And so I know, I thought, well, I want to be a partner one day. I need to be able to bring in business. But here's what I was told by my mentors at the time. They were like, well, that's not what first year associates are supposed to do, right? Breaking the rules, not following protocol. You're supposed to network with other lawyers. And I was like, how am I going to make partner? Networking with other lawyers versus clients. And so I started my own agency. And really funny story is, the first time I had a case that was contentious, I had to actually go up against my old law firm. I was representing the most decorated female basketball player in history, Theresa Edwards. She was my client. And the Atlanta Dream new WNBA team just came to Atlanta. My firm represented the Atlanta Dream, which I didn't know.
Oh, my gosh.
The head of the Atlanta Dream sent over an agreement. I marked it up, sent it back. He didn't like that. I think he thought we were just going to accept what he offered. And I remember sitting in my office that I had this high rise office, this, I should say loft office that I had just built out. And I was like, why is my law firm calling me? What is my old firm calling me? And it was a woman who was actually in my practice group who explained that we had to work this out. So they had to go through me to get something for their client. And they told me that I wasn't capable of doing this. And so isn't it funny how God will bring things back around full circle? The very thing that people tell you you cannot do, he will put it on massive display. Massive display. And it just always, it always warms my heart to have that.
Oh, that moment of closure. I know. I so get that. I've definitely had in my earlier career, I remember having lunch with a friend and I was starting one of my companies, and she said, allison, no one's ever going to come to you for that. And I remember walking out of there going, well, that's the time. Last time I'm having lunch with her. And then I think probably 12 years later, I mean, that's how long I run into her downtown San Diego. And I know it's terrible, but I just couldn't help but say, you know, she's like, oh, how are things going? Oh, well, you know, this happened and this happened and this happened. And it's not, I'm not a bragger, but I just, in that moment, I just was like, look, thank goodness I didn't listen to you. So. And that's for all the people. And you know, we've got some great. We've got a lot of people on here, commenting. So please share your thoughts and your comments of the things that Marshawn is talking about. I'm sure that you all have had experiences where you have big dreams or you're working on things, and the people around you, they're not trying to be mean. You know, I don't think that's their intention, but, you know, sometimes they will throw water all over your dreams. And what do you say to that, Marshawn?
I actually write about it in Believe Bigger because so Believe Bigger is all about embracing disruption when life doesn't go as planned. But the title Believe Bigger is certainly about your belief system and your thinking. And I talk a lot about frequencies and that sometimes we are on a different frequency than other people. We can be operating in a place of faith, but if they're operating in a place of worry or even reality really attached to the physical world, what they see is what they is the limits to what they can actually believe. But those who are what I say, are believers that are operating in a faith realm. You're operating in the unseen. You believe in possibility. And this is where entrepreneurs have to be. So when you start to do something that is bigger, people actually think they're doing you a favor by helping you to be more what they would consider stable and predictable, because unpredictable people make predictable people very uncomfortable. And they will mentor you into conformity and mediocrity. There's this principle of the mean where people don't want you to get too far ahead or too high, but they also don't want you to be too low. So for people, the majority of the planet, most people operate just in this little way.
Yeah, right.
And they want to keep you there. And the thing about being a manifester, being a creator, an income generator, and being a life changer, like, in order to be a life changer, that means you've got to be in a place that most people aren't. And one of the things I always tell my clients is that you've got to be very aware of the weaknesses of your inner circle because they may not have the same mindset, the investment mindset, the faith mindset, and the fearlessness to really go after everything that's in store for you. You're not responsible for what's in store for everybody else, but you are responsible for what's in store for you. So you've got to have a bigger belief system. And the last thing I'll say is, because this thing of. There's this battle that I talk about in believe bigger between little me and future me. And little me is the obnoxious little roommate in your head. A roommate that we've all had particularly as women for a really long time. The voice of fear and worry, doubt and hesitation. But the opposite of that voice is future me. And future me is the voice of possibility, of certainty and adventure. And so these two voices will battle because inside of you is something incredible. Now what will also happen is you might be listening to future me, but then you'll hear someone else's little me, right? That's what happens when other people give us their opinions passed off as wisdom. When it's really their failures that they haven't. Their failures and their doubts that they haven't even explored yet. And oftentimes when you're going to do something new, it makes them realize what they've never done. So I believe you've got to look at this. I believe that the divine speaks in cans and not in cans. I look at it. If something or someone is telling me I can't, then that's not. That's not for my highest intention. That's not who I am as a motivator, as a mouthpiece. And so we can bless people from afar. We don't have to curse them. But sometimes you do have to cut off what they're saying so that doesn't get into your spirit, because what's inside of you is what you will manifest. So when we operate in hesitation, worry or stagnation, oftentimes we're manifesting negative, low vibration, low frequency thoughts. So you've got to be very cognizant of who's speaking into you. Opinions that you just brush off so that you can step and walk. And I believe we're supposed to walk in overflow, not opinions.
Well, I love all that you're sharing. And I think that's really resonating with a lot of people that are listening to that, to this. And you know, I always say to decipher who you share your dreams with, right? Of people that you know that you trust are going to support you and are moving in that direction. And you know, when you're, if you look like, pretend like you have tentacles or plugs, you're literally plugging into that energy. And so what I tell people is visualize, like, unplugging. Just unplug, unplug, unplugged, and plug back into you and give yourself that energy. So, yeah, I mean, it's a huge thing, and it can be a dream killer, as you say. But tell us a little bit more about Believe Bigger, and then I want to get into some of the concepts of the book. Can you hold the book up again so people can see it?
Of course. I would love to do that.
Yeah. I mean, look how beautiful this book is. And so you all are definitely going to want to read this. It's just fantastic book. Marshawn just brings a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to the book. And first of all, who's the book for? Tell us. You know, who is the ideal reader of Believe Bigger?
Yeah. So I wrote Believe Bigger really for ambitious women and for women who are dealing with some level of adversity. It's about embracing disruption when life doesn't go as planned. And for me, I had had this life very much marked by success and accolades and accomplishments. And I felt like a lot of times, for women like us who are ambitious, people assume that we always have it all together and that there's not a backstory to the glory story that they see. And as a branding expert and influence strategist, I like for things to look good. Like, I really made sure that I had my cover look the way that I wanted it to look, that it meets the target audience. But what was important to me was that I told not just the good parts, but the whole truth. And every woman who has climbed the ladder in any form or fashion that arrives in her spot of significance usually has to go through some kind of a struggle. And mine was extremely embarrassing and somewhat shameful. And I didn't. It bothered me, honestly, Allison, that people thought maybe that I wasn't a real person or unattainable just because of some of the awesome opportunities that I've taken advantage of. Now I work really hard. A lot of times, people think that stuff just comes easy or just that I'm different than other people, or maybe my life was different or some silver spoon. But I work hard. I am not a lazy person. And that's the. The one thing that no one can ever say about me. But at the same time, there are certain things that my. My resume, my accomplishments. They can't fix your heart. They can't fix your heart. And so there are still things in terms of fear and wounding and Heartbreak that as women we go through and in business, we often don't talk about it. And so I wanted to share a transparent story that I didn't want my life to be known for strategy. I wanted it to be known for synergy and spiritual synergy. And how do we walk in alignment with our divine assignment? Because that's what makes a beautiful, courageous, and necessary woman. It's not just what we know up here, but when we're led with our heart. But what do you do when your heart is broken? And so I wrote believe bigger. For a woman who wants to be real, who wants to have transparent conversations, who knows that her life is not just about money and influence, there's nothing wrong with that. But how do you recover from devastating moments, rock bottom moments, and turn it into something bigger? So that's who it's for.
Well, I mean, I think that is the difference between someone that succeeds and not is because we all have rock bottom moments. I've had many, many over the years. But it's. How do you deal with that? What are the choices that you make after that? How do you apply the lessons? And how fast do you get back up again? You know, because we can hit rock bottom and stay at rock bottom and dwell and spin and spin and spin and rock bottom, or we can really, you know, dive deep under, you know, find out what happened, really glean those lessons and then, you know, make the decision to move forward and use the best wisdom for those in our future. And that's obviously what you've continued to do.
I agree with you. One thing is I think that sometimes we can try to bounce up too fast and miss the lessons and miss the actual healing necessary to really have the power that's needed. What I believe is that a woman has to honor her timetable of healing. It doesn't mean that you dwell, but it does mean that you do the work. And that yes, because I was a rusher, I was like, I don't have time to be down my. I have things to accomplish, things to do. I got to put my cape back on. Dun dun dun Marshawn is back and this situation. So I was, I mentioned that I had started this sports agency. I was engaged to get married. I'm going to be a bonus mom to three kids. I got this book, I'm doing television. I'm on espn, cnn, and Fox Business on a regular basis. Life is good. And then six days before my wedding, now, mind you, six days before means my dress, I should say be honest dresses, because I had More than one. Dresses are paid for, the venue is taken care of. We've got flowers and it's amazing how much flowers cost that are not going to last more than 48 hours. Yes, everything is paid for. I feel like I'm walking into a dream wedding, high profile wedding. And I find out six days before my wedding while my fiance is on the plane coming from Chicago to Atlanta for wedding week. We've got meetings that day with the venue, with the camera person with the final cake testing. While he's on the plane I discover and I'll leave it to those who actually get their copy of Believe. Bigger how I discovered it. But I discover that he's cheating on me.
Oh my God.
It was something that I just didn't see it coming. I didn't see it coming. I didn't. And I also felt like this, this type of stuff doesn't happen to a woman like me. How do I end up? I'm a smart chick, I'm a good judge of character, I'm well educated, I'm discerning. I'm always discerning of who I let into my inner circle. This doesn't happen to a woman like me. I believe in God and I just think, well, God's got my back, I'm going to be protected. This doesn't happen to me. This doesn't happen to me. Not me. This is what I hear happen to other people, not me. And so it's something that brings you to your knees and to your, to a place of humility and surrender. And I can say that that was necessary now to. Because I had a lot of self reliance and realizing that I don't know how I got here but clearly there's a message that I need to hear. So now, God, you have my attention. And what made it even more difficult was that I closed down my sports agency for this relationship. He had said, you know what, you've been running, you've been traveling, you've been on this book for, you've been working with these athletes. Why don't you just come to Chicago? Don't. Work is hard. Get used to being a mom and I'll take care of you until you can figure out, you know, what you want to do here. Readjust your life. But there's no hurry. He had a very successful multimillion dollar company himself. So here I'm heartbroken. I'm now financially broken because I don't know how I'm going to pay my bills because I let go of my whole agency. I Had transitioned all of my clients out. I knew I was not going to go back to my law firm. Had been gone from that too long. And that was a place of. I had become ill before when I was at my law firm. So I knew I couldn't go back there, but I didn't know what was next. And so you asked me earlier also about who this is for. And I remember being in that season of depression, staring at the ceiling, asking, waiting for an answer, but a blank ceiling staring back at me and what do I do next? I don't have the emotional capacity to market a business and I don't know what I'm going to do because I've closed my business. I am again. I decided to put myself in counseling, which I think is important. Important for us as business women to talk about as well. I know you're a believer in personal growth and working on. Oh yeah, sometimes we have so much pride that we won't, we won't submit to just being able to look at the. Not just hiring a coach for business and for strategy, but what about your soul? Like really working on yourself and allowing yourself to heal. And in the beginning, I was sitting on that couch two days a week. Two days a week I was. I knew two things. One, I knew that my life was not my own, that my life mattered. And the second thing that I knew was that I had to be okay if I was going to fulfill my life mission. But before I rushed into fulfilling my life mission and inspiring everyone and telling them how to make their lives better, I decided I had to work on myself first. And it was through that process that I really learned what it meant to believe bigger than what you've been through through. As I started working with women and helping them to. And really I just needed to pay my bills and people kept asking me how I branded myself and how I got athletes on television and got endorsement deals with Nike and Rolls Royce And Tiffany & Co. And I said, well, maybe I can utilize this to pay my bills. And I had one seminar and that one seminar with 35 people has now grown to the largest coaching company for women of faith in the country. Multimillion dollar income generating enterprise. And I've been able to do it in a way that was authentic to me because my faith is very important. And I didn't find that there was a place where it was okay to be really strong in your faith and to be highly successful in business. And I wrestled with that. And that for me was also believing bigger about something that was Maybe a unique path that was just for me. And so through that, I've learned that all of us have a mission that has our name on it. Every single one of us, in order to step into our destiny, will have to deal with disruption. And if we can embrace disruption and travel through the corridor of pain, not brush it away, not rush through it, but actually pass through it, like, come through it, learn the lessons that it was sent to give you, that you'll become a woman that you don't even recognize, but it's a woman that you were always meant to be be. And that's what we're here to do. We're here to lead in great and magnificent ways. And I also learned these five stages of divine reinvention that are at the core of.
Yeah, no one. Yeah, tell. Tell us about those. Because I just. Each of them are so powerful, and everybody needs to recognize those and be aware. So please share that. So.
So I was very early on in my coaching business, and maybe a year and a half, two years in, I still had a lot of corporate clients. So Delta Airlines was one of my clients. And a woman who was a senior executive, C level at office. I mean, Home Depot. Home Depot was there that day. And we were just talking at a networking reception that Delta was having. And she expressed to me that she was feeling that tug that I remember feeling when I was deciding whether to leave my law firm. And so I asked her, I said, so, what is it you're feeling like you want to do? She's like, I'm not sure. And I had been writing in my business journal about these five stages that I felt every person goes through. I saw it with all the women that I were working with, women and men. And so I started to explain them to her. And in stage one, it's called a discovery. Discovery is where we ask the question, who am I supposed to be? Who am I supposed to be? And how we answer that question determines who we believe we actually are and who we're good enough to be. And so we adopt in stage one, what I call the rules. And I outline it actually in Believe Bigger. So now that I actually have a book in print, I can show you this as I go.
So y' all everybody taking notes on this. And, you know, you're going to be able to read this in Marshawn's book, Believe Bigger. And I am going to answer. We'll have Marshawn answer questions, too, in the comments. So if you have questions, please comment along the way or. Or make any Comments as well. Let us know what's coming up for you. And listening what she has to share today.
Well, if something's going to come up, it's going to come up in discovery, because this is where we learn how to shrink. This is where we learn how to play by the rules. And Allison's rules might be different than mine, and ours might be different than yours, but all of us have rules, and rules are designed to keep us contained. This is also where little me first starts to make its home in our head and in our heart, in our thoughts and in our emotions. And this is again the voice of fear, hesitation, and doubt. This is where we learn people please, people pleasing, protocol, approval, and what I believe is the worst of all of them, appropriateness. And this is where we. This is where we learn hesitation and doubt. And we're conditioned for containment in stage two. And I'll show you a little bit, I know it's going to probably be fit, but that stage one is discovery. You can see there's a little rule book here called talent. In talent, there are these five mountains. These five mountains that we learn to climb. And in discovery, again, we ask the question, who am I supposed to be in the talent, we ask the question, who did I decide to be? Who did I decide to be? Now it's very important that you know you can be anything that you decide. It doesn't mean it's who you're born to be, but you can be anything you decide to be, especially if you put time, effort, talent, money into it. What you water grows. So what will happen is we'll find some measure, some mountain of success. I call them the five success mountains for women. Motherhood, marriage, making a difference, money and mending. That's our innermist fixer. And we'll find one of those. Make that our lane, and that lane becomes our life, but it also dangerously, can become our identity. We can feel like motherhood is who I am, and that's all that I am. So then when calling comes in and knocks on your doorstep, which it will, we'll ignore it. Purpose will make its pathway shown, and we'll run away from it because we don't feel that's who we are good enough to be. It's not what the rules say. And purpose does not play by the rules. Destiny doesn't care about the rules. And so these labels that we have become fables, these stories we tell ourselves and these titles that we adopt, they become idols that we obsess over. And we think that's all that there is. And so what will happen is a split rock moment. I talk about split rock moments in chapter two. For me, it was infidelity. For you, it could be the job ends or a health scare. Something happens that shakes your world up. And that split rock moment is going to seem hard and devastating, something that you don't feel, how you can control. And it'll seem like it's an attack that's happening to you. But what if it's really happening for you? What if something greater that is inside of you and I walk through what a split rock moment is in a hard place. How there's new life in the middle of these hard places.
Marshawn, just one second on that, too, because I think a lot of people are going through that, that split rock moment right now. There's a lot of disruption happening around us right in the world. And then just. And then personally, professionally, romantically, in careers in business. And, you know, I love that you share this, because what you're saying is these are really the blessings. And I know when I think about in my life, some of the biggest triumphs really came when I hit a wall so hard. Didn't see it coming like you went through. And then, okay, now I've got to really dig deep and figure this out. And just like that's where everything changed for the better. You start a new path that's more fulfilling or, you know, you have really a bigger success because what you thought was where you were supposed to be, you couldn't even imagine over here how much better it is. So I just wanted to touch upon that because I do think there are so many people experiencing that right now, and that's why this book is going to be so helpful to them.
Yeah, I'm glad you paused there, because disruption is happening because there's a realignment happening in the world.
Yeah.
Because we don't have a purpose mindset. I say that we're taught more for reinvent. I'm sorry, we're taught more about retirement as opposed to reinvention.
Yes.
And so we think that when something is unsettling, that something is wrong, as opposed to it being a bridge to the blessings or an invitation into the incredible. And the thing that I always say is that blessing your promised land, it is available, but it's not guaranteed. It has only your name on it, but it doesn't mean you'll enter it. So just because disruption happens in your life, it doesn't mean that you'll be able to shift into something greater without a Bigger belief system without a mindset and a mind shift, again, to believe. And it is hard. Let's not make this too nice and polite. And it is hard to believe. Bigger than the ish that you're facing in your life?
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
There are days when it's just enough to brush your teeth and to take a bath. So it is not easy. But the bigger the battle, the bigger the blessing on the other side. And that I do believe. So the disruption comes in in part, because if you'll see here, I know it's flipped, but you're in your comfort zone. When you're in discovery. And talent, you don't realize it because talent can seem very successful. You may have this great career or your family is doing wonderfully, but somehow, if it's predictable, then it's comfortable. And that's why disruption comes in, is to break you up with yourself. So I had to realize this wasn't about a man. This wasn't about him. This was about an outdated relationship that I had with myself. And so what happens from there? I have all this stuff falling out. This is the book I've taken on my book tour with me. So all of my little props are falling out the bottom. But here in the middle, we end up in this place called the Gap. And the Gap is really where a lot of people end up in circle forever. It's kind of like that wilderness in between your Egypt and your promised land. You're going in circles. You know that there's something more. You're in a place of transition, and you're feeling that recurring tug. So most people are either in talent, where they're on some mountain that they have made their life, and they are having trouble seeing something bigger because they think that's all there is to it. They're in this place of disruption, or they're just sitting here waiting to understand what's next and how to get unstuck. And so the way, you know you're in the Gap is you take the word shift and you take the F out. So when things are just happening around you, I believe if we have this bigger belief system, we have this faith mindset where we say, you know, what things are really happening? For me, it might be hard to believe that, but why are they happening for me when you can see that there's somewhere greater for you to be? In stage four, we get into gifts. And in gifts, we ask the question, who was I born to be? How was I really designed? Not what I decided to be in talent right but who was I really born to be? What are my unique gifts? My gifts and my talents are different. Talents are something you can be trained to do, you can be degreed in, but your destiny is attached to your gifts and your superpowers. This is your incredible, your brilliance, your light. And we all have different gifts, right? But one universal superpower that we all have in common, I believe is our voice. And this is why the Me Too movement is happening. This is why women, they think it's a boss lady and a girl boss movement and entrepreneurial movement. I really feel like it is awakening of voices and superpowers that have been dormant for too long and it happens to be expressing itself in the business world. But for women, we've got to understand this is really about us stepping into our essence, who we really are and who we were always built to be. The final stage, our gifts exist for the purpose of leadership and influence. So the final stage is influence. And this is where we're supposed to be. And as women, we have a love hate relationship with the idea of leadership and influence. We're taught that we're supposed to wait because of what we learned in discovery, in the rules that we need to ask for permission that we have. We feel guilty about charging, we feel guilty about marketing. We feel guilty about being seen.
Right?
Well, listen, when God said let there be light, I believe he was giving all of us permission to shine.
Oh, I love that. Right from the beginning.
Yes, from the very beginning. It's how it got started and started with voice, Let there be light so we can speak our new world into existence with action. But understanding what our gifts are, our gifts give us the guidance into our purpose. And so this book is about belief and believing bigger than what you've been through, believing bigger than who you think you are and what you have made your life about. Answering the call, the tug upon your heart that destiny is saying, hey, there's more in store for you. We need you. And we do. The future is calling, but there is this path, and I call this the purpose map. Because I believe that the purpose of faith, the purpose of believing bigger, is to accomplish your life mission. And most people on the planet don't know their purpose. They don't know their assignment. They don't know their gifts. They don't know, as you'll learn and believe bigger, that each of us is called to teach. We just have a different classroom. And so that's why I'm grateful for this opportunity to share with you and your following your audience, just to Inspire one. You matter. You have a mission with your name on it. Your voice matters. You are necessary. There is a path. You can't rush it. But if you are willing to leave your comfort zone, there is a glory zone that you can step into that is not just about you, but is about the impact you are designed to have here on Earth and change other people's lives, too.
Wow, Marshawn, that is just incredible. I love how you've made this so real and tangible. I'm getting a little bit of an echo, so let me make sure that I fix that. Is that better? How you make it so real and tangible and how. How applicable it is to, you know, everyone in their life. And I'm sure everyone's had those moments, you all that are listening, where you have these things, you know, like, I'm really good at this, and that's why I'm doing it. But does it bring me joy? Am I fulfilled? Am I excited to get up in the morning and go after it? You know? And that's where that alignment comes in, Marshawn. Right where it feels good in the head and it feels good in the heart. And when we're in conflict with that, it's almost like we're fighting with ourselves every single day. And I think that's what creates depression and exhaustion and illness, you know, all of the above.
I agree. I believe that purpose is the most powerful force on the planet. I believe when we're in alignment with our divine assignment, when we're in alignment with our gifts, when we're fully awake with who we are, why we're here, it's not supposed to be a mystery. We should have mastery in this area, that we would be more intentional. You know, I have this vision, Alison, that our kids would grow up before they know how to write their ABCs and their one, two, threes. That they would know this map, that they would know that mom, they would be able to, a little girl, be able to say, mommy, I know I'm called to lead one day, and I'm going, I can't wait to climb my mountain so that I can be good at what I do, that I can have skills and abilities and not be what we have in this generation right now, which is a sense of entitlement without the hard work ethic, knowing that you've got to have some depth. Because one day what you learn as you climb those mountains is what you will now be be required to go back and teach. And you're going to need to have some ability, some Chutzpah, some skill and some moxie to be able to make a real difference. That's my vision, is that we will be able to change our language. And similar to the five love languages now, we have these five stages of purpose. Even for life coaches, business strategists, our job is to help get people out of the gap, identifying what is your gap and what are the things that you have to do to move forward. And so I have some big intentions around and vision around this mission, but I think now we at least have some language that we can use to be equipped as opposed to. Because you and I are in the same space. And we hear people talk about purpose and significance and fulfillment, but they're buzzwords. Unless you have specificity and know what that means, that can be just as embarrassing is to know that there is purpose out there, but you don't know yours. And I think there's a lot of business and life coaches out there that talk about it too, but they don't actually even understand it for themselves. Yeah, I wanted to fill in the gap and say, you know, here's a way we can talk about it. There's much work to be done. I can't do it by myself. So hopefully this purpose map will be a tool that we can all use to retrain and elevate the consciousness of how we talk about purpose.
It's so needed. It's so needed, you know, because otherwise you're going through life aimlessly. You think that you have a direction, but it's not really connected. We just had a mastermind for our. For our business owners. We call it Pinnacle Global Network. And we were talking about that how if you have a team problem, it's a vision problem. If you have a marketing problem, it's a vision problem. If you have a sales problem, it's a vision problem. It all reconnects to what is the purpose, what's our why, what gets us excited? Where does that drive come from? And you have so much of that. You have a big mission, Marshawn. And I know that you're going to inspire so many people with this book and your movement. And we have some comments here, and I just want to address them real quickly because. So, Lakeisha. Hi, Lakeisha. How are you? And Marcella Winston is saying, are you going to have any seminars based on this book, Marshawn?
Yes. So a couple of things@believebigger.com which is where you can get your book and also anywhere books are sold, if you're in the United States, Every single Barnes and Noble in the country has Believe Bigger at the front of the store on the new releases table right when you walk in so you'll be able to pick it up there. It's also on Amazon Books a million, all of these online retailers, including itunes. But what I have done for those who are leaders and influencers is I've created some online workshops that you can get access to right now the moment you buy the book. So when you go to believe bigger.com if you get a single copy of this little lady right here, you get a single copy, then you're going to get this vision board workshop. I'm actually going to be back on television tomorrow doing vision board workshops. Alison, Every time I've done a vision board for the new season or new year, I've been on national television within 24 hours not even pitching it. It happens. Every single.
Wow. Is that what you put on your board and it just happens or it's because you've done the board?
Because I've done the board.
Wow, look at that.
Tomorrow doing another one. So I talked about the workshop that you'll get as a bonus for getting. You'll see why you put your picture on, what the significance of clocks are, why you'll see on this one, themes you'll see gift boxes and gift guide being understanding of me, understanding who I was. So you'll get this complimentary workshop lakisha and whoever goes and gets a single copy of the book, you'll get the vision board workshop. Now also on the purpose map, if you do a If you buy three or 10, you're going to get a devotional. So I believe in doing devotional time every morning. It's important to get your mind right and even to do it in morning and nighttime. So I've also got these devotionals, 21 day devotional which is full color that you'll get if you do the trio. Lastly, if you do the 10, you'll get a video workshop on the purpose map.
Oh I love it.
The workshop. So I will be going on tour and you can go to believebigger.com tour and see the cities that will be coming up but those are coming down the pipeline. I would love for you to get access to growing your mindset and stepping into your purpose now. And you'll also see some other bundles on there. So all you do is go to believe bigger.com the bundles are also discounted so you'll be able to get more than you'll be able to get more than one at a discounted price than you would before the full cover price. And I will tell you that it is a big deal for a woman to have a hardcover book.
It is a big deal.
It is a big investment from a publisher. My book deal was supposed to be for 50,000 words and it's 90,000 and they wanted me. They wanted, normally that doesn't happen. So I've had a huge investment from my publisher in this and I wanted to make sure that women who were destiny minded that wanted to work on themselves and wanted to pour this into other people. So what I've been challenging women to do, if you have coaching programs, get this for your mastermind, get this for your clients. If you have a group of women in your ministry or in your, at your company women's group. The thing about a purpose minded woman is that she thinks about other people and understands that. I can tell you one thing, I may not know what your specific purpose is, but I do know it's about changing the lives of other people. So when we shift from just let me just buy something for myself and even go above that investing in myself, the highest behavior that we can do is sewing and giving. So as we invest in ourselves, right? And we do it with the intention, I'm going to co invest. And so at the same time I'm investing in myself sewing into other people. I made these bundles for women who are thinking on that other frequency that I'm talking about, who want to accelerate their, their, their growth and their shift into their glory zone. So that's why I've created those bundles and you can get them@believebigger.com well I love that.
And so this is such a great gift for all those people in your lives that need the inspiration and, or even maybe they're doing great in their life but you know that there's going to be a next level up for them. This is the perfect gift. So I highly recommend going after the bundles. Get all that you can from Marshawn, her trainings and all of the gifts that she's offering. Take advantage of it, go full in, do the work and it's going to come back to you full force. So you can check out believebigger.com and, and you'll find all the magic there. Make sure you get out, get the book or books and then it's time to go play that bigger game. So Marshawn, thank you so much for coming on Ally and you today. This has been such a gift for me and everybody that's listening and I know. Go ahead, Marshawn. There's a lot of people commenting here. Wow. We have. So you're going to want to get on there and answer people's questions. Go ahead, Marshawn will come on and say hi to you all. Linda says it's weird. You have to experience it to understand it. Yeah. Sometimes you have to kind of go through it. But the bigger the battle, the greater the blessing. Gail Jones was commenting on your comment. Disruptions happening because realignment is happening in the world. Vanessa Smith shared that. So, anyway, just some. Seems like everyone's really enjoyed this. And yeah, thank you so much for sharing your heart and your purpose and thank you for sharing Believe Bigger.
Thank you. And I just want to affirm who you are and what you do and your generosity of even just opening up your platform and being willing to help spread this message. And I'm excited about your new book when it comes out this year, and I can't wait to interview you. Yay. And I have a new business mentorship program that I'm going to be doing this summer, so I can't wait to be able to introduce your strategies and your brilliance. And I just believe we're in this thing of helping women step into their full abundance. You know, you had said it was like maybe 12 years later that you ran into that woman who told you that she couldn't. You couldn't do something. And what I thought about is that 12 is the number of abundance. It's the first in the numerical system. There's something, you know, we've got odd and even. I didn't know until 2012 that we had numbers that were called abundant numbers. And 12 is the first of all of them. So how wonderful was it that you were able to see her when you were in your abundant place?
Yes.
Greater is it that you're now helping women to walk into their own, to believe beyond the naysayers and the doubters and even the little me hater in their head.
Yes.
Honored to be in the space of time and in 2018, where we live now, and hopefully beyond that, we get to help other people step into their destiny. And so it's an honor to be here. I affirm everything that you're doing and look forward to us being able to do stuff together one day as well.
Thanks, Marshawn. When I found out you were doing this book, I said, hey, I've got to share that with everybody that I know because it's so, so important. So, anyway, well, listen, thank you so much for joining us. And thank you for all of you that are listening and participating. Please share this with share this interview with as many people as you can, anybody that you feel would benefit and go out and get the book or books. All right, Take care. Get out there, elevate yourself, because you deserve it. And we'll see you on the next Allie and you next Wednesday. And until then, have a wonderful week. Bye, everybody.
