"The 3 SECRETS To Achieving Anything YOU WANT IN LIFE!" | Naveen Jain & Allison Maslan

Naveen Jain and Allison Maslan discuss mindset and entrepreneurship. Jain shares his approach to overcoming fear, building teams, and creating impactful businesses through philosophy and practical strategy.
We put these limits on ourselves and we call them sky. That is my limit. And these are imaginary limits. They don't exist. But we always say, I am a woman, that's the best I can do. I am an immigrant, that's the best I can do. That's my limit. I don't speak like them, that's the best I can do. I don't look like them. That's the best I can do. I don't have the same education, that's the best I can do. And to me these are the limits we place on ourselves because we create the mindset. Mindset of what we can or cannot do.
You are a self made billionaire coming from very humble beginnings. Can you just give us a little window into when you were a kid, Naveen? Like what did you dream of being when you were little? I'm just curious. I just want to know.
Yeah, so first of all, Alison, that you know, you go back and look at life when you were young and I think we can always rewrite the history of what actually happened. But the fact is very few of us knew what was going to happen to our lives. Especially when you're growing up in a very poor, humble environment, it is hard to even dream. The biggest dream you have is are you going to have food tomorrow? Are you going to have a place to stay tomorrow? Right? And all these things are really on top of your mind. That's the last thing you worry about. What about day after tomorrow? Right? So really not something to think about. The future. And I think the amazing things happens in life is that when you have a family and you have people you surround yourself with who give you unconditional love, who believe in you and who make you believe that everything you want in life is possible, then suddenly over time, you start to go up there and you start to build your own North Star. And you get there and I think what I still remember, at least from my childhood days is that my mother would always tell me, you know Naveen, you're so bright you can do anything you want. And then she would see the magical word sky is the limit. And the interesting thing is without her realizing that there is no such thing as sky. Sky is nothing but a figment of our imagination. When we go here, from here to the moon or Mars, we don't say, hey mom, I just passed sky. There is no sky. And that is really to me what she was trying to tell me is that every one of us, we put these limits on ourselves and we call them sky. That is My limit. And these are imaginary limits. They don't exist. But we always say, I am a woman. That's the best I can do. I am an immigrant. That's the best I can do. That's my limit. I don't speak like them. That's the best I can do. I don't look like them. That's the best I can do. I don't have the same education. That's the best I can do. And to me, these are the limits we place on ourselves because we create the mindset of. Of what we can or cannot do. And I think, to me, I'm going to stop right there and just allow you to continue the conversation.
Well, this is so powerful. Hey, team, could you put Naveen on the screen here so I can look at his face? That would be great. Yeah. There is no sky. Like, think about that, right? We always say the sky is the limit. Where did that come from? You know, I love, first of all, your book and I'm going to show that before we're done. Your book Moonshot blew my mind. You have to get his book Moonshot. And you said in the book we will realize either the world we fear to imagine or the world we dare to dream. Can you talk about that a little bit?
Yes. And I think it's really interesting is that what we achieve in our life is exactly what we want to achieve in our life. Right? So day before any breakthrough, any. It's a crazy idea. And day after the breakthrough, it's an obvious idea. Everyone say, oh, of course it made sense. Of course someone should have done that. And until then it was like, are you crazy? That will never be done. Right. And that to me is really the belief in yourself. And I think there are a couple of things I can go through the framework that I use Alison about how do you come up with these crazy, audacious Moonshot ideas? But I think to me, let's just go slightly tangent, that what is that fear that stops us from really achieving our biggest dreams? And the fear comes from couple of things. One is, what if it doesn't work? What will people say? And it is really, we live our lives every single day worrying about, what would my parents say, what would my neighbor say, what would my boyfriend say, what would my girlfriend say, what would they say? And I have no idea what this imaginary day is. But at the end of the day, once you fall in love with yourself, the world will fall in love with you. And I don't mean when you say fall in love to become A self conceited idiot. Right. And I'm trying to say simply not looking for someone else's approval. That means you get comfortable who you are and you don't let someone else define who you are based on their own perception. And to me, other people's perception of you is really reflects more on them than on you. So for example, if I come across as really self confident person and I am talking to Alison, who has been a successful person, it is pretty obvious that it is a confidence when someone is really, really doesn't love themselves and they really are weak. Guess what? They think I'm an arrogant asshole because they just cannot imagine them being there. So it got to be something negative because they can't get there. Right. And that to me is their perception of their self worth rather than our perception of who I am. Right. So that's one thing that stops people. So I think that's one thing people should always do is surround yourself with people who actually uplift you. Surround yourself. People who actually make you believe everything is possible. And get rid of every single person in your life who tells you you cannot do that. Or you come from this background, you can't do that. What do you know about health care? You can't do that. You don't even have a degree in this. How can you possibly dream of doing that? And none of those things actually matter. So let's continue the conversation.
I love it. You can go on on your passionate rants. It's so true. Because these are the things that stop us. And I know we've all experience this on some level. So I think that I know that this is resonating with everybody here. And you guys can put in the chat too as well. Yeah, perception. Get rid of the negative influence. Definitely. Now on that same vibe. The number one thing that holds prevents business owners, I think from succeeding is really a fear of failure underneath. And so what are your thoughts about that?
So entrepreneurs actually never fail until they give up. It is simply a pivot. They adapt. So your idea may or may not work. And any idea that does not work is simply a stepping stone to a different idea and a bigger idea. So human beings fail, entrepreneurs fail. So they simply keep changing until the things that work. And another thing that I learned that really in life is that entrepreneurs are alive. And the only way you know you are alive is you have a heartbeat. Right. So you check your pulse and you know how the heartbeat looks like it goes up and down and up and down. When it is smooth, you're dead. So as an entrepreneur, if you're looking for that smooth life, you're looking for a dead life, right? You don't want to be the dead person who wants a smooth life. You're looking for this life that goes up and down. And the beauty of the thing is when you are down, all you have to do is hunker down with your friends and you know if you can survive that the next beat is going to be all the way up. And remember when you are on top of that beat, never get too cocky because winter is coming and winter shall come. We just want to be live the life and expect the things to be fatal. In some sense, you have to go through the near death experience before you succeed. And every time that happens, you should accept it and you should expect it. And that's really where the life is. The other thing I could tell you, Alistair, just my philosophy of life about when something happens, we have this tendency to actually label that thing is it good or is it bad? And our whole mindset and our emotions change because we labeled something not that event in itself is good or bad. By us labeling them, our emotions change. Oh, that was really bad. And now I feel bad and I feel sad and I don't know what to do about it versus it was good. An interesting thing in life is when you look back after five years you will realize a thing that looked like a bad event, probably the best thing that ever happened to you in your life, it changed you, what you became. And I think one of the story I remember that my dad always told me that just really interesting way of him explaining and he said there was this person in a village and in the village obviously they have the son who is the oldest son who was going to look after him, help him in the farming. That son stubbed his toe and broke the toe and he could not walk properly. Everybody in the village came to him and said, we are so sorry that your son is not going to be able to take care of you. He won't be able to farm for you. And they were all feeling bad for him. Six months later there was a draft and all the people came and said, every single young man who is able to walk properly is going to be drafted and taken to war and going to be killed. And every person came to him and said, you are the most luckiest person on earth. You have your son with you and all of our sons are gone. Now that event, was it good or was it bad? We wouldn't have known at that time. And my point Is, you know, people always ask and say, if you look back in your life, what is one thing you would change? And I find that to be such an interesting question because if you change anything in the past, it will change the trajectory of who you become. And if you love who you are today, why would you want to change anything? Even the thing that was the worst thing happened to you, changed you to become who you are, made you emotionally intelligent, made you spiritually together. And to me, every one of those things, you should embrace them when they happen and say, universe has a plan for me. And I think the one thing I'm just going to add to it and call that spirituality, call that religion, call that what you want. Once you believe universe is your friend and universe is not your enemy, when things happen to you, you simply say, oh, universe knows better. It is probably the best thing, a best message a universe is trying to send me. I need to get my act together so it can help get to be who I need to be. And that's all it takes.
Yeah. That is so powerful. Naveen, thank you for sharing that. I mean, I think back in my own life, in the really tough times when I, I feel like the universe threw me out on my butt, is where everything that I'm doing now came from. And if I, if I had the easy road, you know, I just don't think that I would approve, Appreciate it as much. And it also lights the fire to say, I want to overcome this. I love also this statement you wrote about in your book. You say the impossibility is just another word for mystery. And mysteries are made to be solved. And I love that because if you look at it not as a roadblock and, oh, it's just something we need to figure out. And so when you come to a challenge, when you, when you hit a wall and something isn't working in all your businesses, I'm sure you've had some times, where do you go in your head, like, how do you face these challenges and, and try to overcome them?
So there's, there are two or three different ways I'm going to act.
Yeah. I mean, you could have been paralyzed from it and then just let it overtake you. Or you said, okay, what am I going to do about it?
It.
Yeah, what do I do about it? Which. And you are also, you are super persuasive and you're very good at inspiring people. Right. So how do you, I mean, you've got massive ideas, you know, living on the moon, how do you enroll people in your Ideas because all those business owners have, they've got products and services, they want to sell them. What do you say to that?
So I think first of all, it is really easy to enroll people if you have a purpose. I think what happens is a lot of the business owners, they want to sell the product. Instead, if they were to step out and they say, I am on a mission or a cause and I'm going to enroll people on our cause and I'm going to have. The thing that I'm doing is going to be the way you solve this problem. And I can give you some really good examples, right? So yesterday I did my first clubhouse and don't ask me why I did my first clubhouse and I did two hours and asked me anything, right? And here I was and talking about my mission of making illness optional. What if we can set. We can create a world where being sick is truly a matter of choice, not a matter of bad luck. I was not talking and selling Wyoming as such. What I was doing was very interesting. I was enrolling them on a mission. Wouldn't you want to have a world where your grandmother is not have dementia or your uncle didn't have to die from cancer or you have to see your loved one suffer through heart diseases, heart operation, diabetes or autoimmune diseases. Pick a disease you want. These are all preventable diseases. These are all reversible diseases. Now would. And I can, you know, I believe we can solve this problem as humanity. If 2 million of us can come together and collect the data about human, human beings, what makes them sick. And this is what we are trying to do. And I said, I need your help in helping me get there. Guess what, I'm not kidding you. I had probably several hundred emails and say, I have 5 million people. I can go out and blast the email to them to get people enrolled on your mission. So I wasn't selling Wyoming. But the of the day, that is exactly what they did. They got people to say, sign up for this purpose because he is on a mission and we need to solve it. Not for our parents, not just for ourselves. Do it for our children and grandchildren. So now if you are a business owner, if you are selling the features and you're selling the products, the person would say, well, you don't have these features, your price is too high. And what they're saying is, I am this product versus others. I mean convince me, why should I buy your product instead? You see, this product is not what I'm doing. This product is not what you're buying, you're buying this mission. And even though today it may not have everything you need, you know I'm going to be there for you. I will build every feature, everything you need. Because I am going to die for this cause. And people need to believe that. And any entrepreneur, when they wake up in the morning and they don't jump out of the bed, they should quit what they're doing because they are not working on their life's purpose. And their way to find the life purpose is obviously that you jump out of the bed every day because you're obsessed about solving that problem. Not obsessed about selling your product, obsessed about solving the problem. Second is find out what are you willing to die for and then live for it. Right? And that to me is the thing you have to believe. You have to be not just passionate, obsessed about this, solving this problem. And if you can, the last point, I'm going to say Alison, I know most of your business owners probably do that subconsciously, but it is never focus on doing things just to make money. Because when you do that, you never get there. If you simply say I am going to serve million people, I'm going to do things that will make million people, 10 million people, billion people's life better because of what I am doing, then you simply focus on serving people. And guess what happens? You end up creating a multi billion dollar enterprises because you're not focused on the money, you're focused on serving people. And then if you can help a billion people, you can create a hundred billion dollar enterprise. But when you try to create a $100 billion enterprise, you always fail. So my crudest way that I have been able to expl people is making money is like having an orgasm. If you focus on it, you're never going to get it. So just enjoy the process.
I won't be using that example, let me just say. But that was good. I get it, I get it, I get it. So I love that because it's the mission and the vision that's going to drive you. You know what's more powerful? Oh, I have these health kits or let's make illness optional. I mean that is something that anybody can get behind. And it's also, you know, when you think of the people that you're serving, I mean that's really what's going to drive that passion and that feeling. And you know, because money is like it's a paper or a coin, there's no feeling there.
It also one of the interesting thing and I'm going to just Switch over to as a business owner to as a parent, as a father and as a mother. And you know, how do you bring that type of values to your children? Right. It is easy for every one of us who is a first time business owner to say we are hungry, we are driven, we do that and then we are really become successful. And then we have these children who are growing up in these affluent family. How do you go out and set the same set of values? And we struggled honestly in the beginning that what to do. My first company was wildly successful beyond any dreams we could have ever had. And then we said, my God, our children are young, what do we do? And my wife's first answer was, you know, maybe we should tell them we should get a small house and we should tell them we don't have much money. And I said, you know, unfortunately they will learn to read one day and they will fail. And it is just natural. Why don't we actually change that and we tell them that you will never have to work for living in your life but your success will never be measured by how much money you have in the bank. Your success will be measured by how many lives you are able to improve. And then we continued, we said your self worth will never come from what you own. Your self worth will come from what you create. And never be a parasite on society where you take more than you give. And that is how we are going to define the success. And the last part I just want to say because that is the crux of the whole thing which is we told them that our love for you is unconditional but our approval is not. That means I will never tell you I'm proud of you unless you follow the value system that we believe in. But you never have to worry do we love you? We'll always love you, but we may not be proud of you. And literally what happened. Now I have three children, 30, 27 and 24. My oldest, when he was 17 he started Kairos which became the largest college entrepreneurship thing. He started the company after he graduated from Wharton, sold that company and now he's working on three companies that are fundamentally changing affordability for housing. And if you just google him, his name is Ankur A N K U R Uncle Jen and you will see he's in cover of Abby Maxi because he's going out and doing things that people thought was never possible. Our daughter who graduated from Stanford, she only cared about women and she started the first company she worked for was to remove the gender bias in hiring using AI, she quit that after five years and she started a company on women's health. And actually looking at all the way from teenage menstrual period to menopause. What are the women's health issues that no one is focused on because every study is done on men. How can we get the women's health forefront of that? Our youngest one graduated from Stanford. He became a Schwarzman Scholar, and now he's starting a company. Now again, these kids are doing these amazing things because they realize their success is measured by how many lives they're able to improve. And that is the key. We as a business owner, we have to not only do it for ourselves, the trick is how do we set that values to our children who are going to see you successful. The last part in this puzzle I want to give you is that as I say, the first company became so successful at that time, most entrepreneurs or most business owners would have said, hey, our kids are really young. I'm going to relax and retire and I'm going to spend time with the children. And nothing wrong with that approach except now look at from the kids perspective. The kids go to school and they watch their dad sitting on the sofa watching cnbc. They come back after the hard work from school and they see the dad sitting on the sofa waiting for the children to come back watching CNBC and tell the kids, you need to work hard. And what the kids are hearing is when I grow up, I want to be just like my dad, sitting on the sofa and watching. Instead, what they saw in me was I started the second company and the third company and then according to them, I went crazy. We said, we are going to go to the Moon. And. And they like now the kids had a family meeting. Dad, you have been successful. Why would you want to go out and do things that are just impossible? You're going to waste all the money that you have earned. You're going to destroy the family. Why don't you just retire and ride into sunset? And I said, let me show you how it is done. And then we go out there and start to show them. They start to say, oh my God, it is possible. But then came the really the hard part. They saw me build the Moon Express, got the $2.6 billion contract from NASA. And then I decided I'm going to go look at the gut microbiome and making illness optional. Kids have now grown up. This is only four years ago. So they can imagine they are in 20s now. And they set the dead down. That space was really what's going to.
Drive that passion and that feeling because money is like it's a paper or a coin. There's no feeling there.

This is only four years ago. So they can imagine they are in 20s now and they set the dead down. That space was one thing. You got it. Health. Are you crazy? You're going to get bloodied. You're going to. No, no one can solve health care. This is so messed up. There is nothing. And what is this microbiome thing you talk about? Nobody's going to ever do that. Four years later they see that now microbiome is talked in vogue and clever and everything. They all call and say, dad, can you talk to my friend who's really hurting in this stuff? They're my dad. My friend has really these issues. Can you get them a wild kid? And my point is what they saw was dad wasn't just talking about money. It doesn't matter. Dad was doing things he loved. Dad was doing things that actually improve the lives of people. Not just tell me what I want to hear. I watched them do that. And that is the trick. Don't tell your kids. Work hard while you're sitting down and going on a vacation and sitting on a beach every day that doesn't quite fly. But a lot smarter than you think.
Yeah, right. Not do as I do, as I say, not as I do. Right. So I get that. And you know my daughter, I was a single mom for 12 years and my daughter was with me throughout all the businesses and she is actually here somewhere today. She's in Israel. She's living in Israel now.
Oh my God. Tell me more about her. How old is she? What is she doing?
Tuning in right now? She is 30. She's 32 years old and I had the honor of having her work with my company for a few years and now she is actually studying natural medicine and homeopathy, which I already told you about, that I really love. So she's a healer. She wants to help change people's lives. So she got that.
I mean God bless her heart and God bless you for creating a daughter value system in your daughter that allowed her to go out and pursue the dream of healing, understanding the root causes of what makes people sick. And that's something I really think most people don't understand. Our body as whole is when it is inflamed, the inflammation, the chronic low grade inflammation, it causes chronic diseases. And today you don't have to take my word for it. Just Google and find the research paper. Depression and anxiety comes from your gut. The Parkinson's and Alzheimer starts in a gut. In fact, so much so the addiction and autism. The research now shows that if you just simply change your diet or change your microbiome through fecal transplant, the symptom of autism goes away. We get emails, Allison, every single week, hundreds of emails. People saying, I lost weight, I'm no longer diabetic, I'm no longer taking biologics, my eczema is gone, my acne is gone. And by the way, I'm no longer depressed, I don't have anxiety. And your heart warms up. So if your daughter is healing people holistically without giving them these drugs. Because if I may say so, our current medical industrial complex makes money when we are sick. It doesn't make money when we are healthy. So there is no, not that they are bad people, but there is no incentive for them to keep us healthy because when we are healthy, they get sick because there is no money for them. So it is the whole system has to completely change where we pay fixed fee and when we get sick, they actually stop getting paid. Guess what happened then? Everybody's going to focus on preventative healthcare. Rather than give me the ill, I'll give you the pill. And by the way, that pill is going to have enough side effect so I can sell you three more pills. And when you take the three pills, can have enough side effect to take nine more pills. And by the time you get to my age, I'm popping more pills than blueberries. And there is something wrong with that system.
Yeah, I did well, I was practicing for 20 years as a homeopath. So I definitely know you've got to get to the root. You got to get to the root cause, not just treating the symptoms. And the same thing in business too. You know, you got to get to the root of the issue. Right. And so this, I love this conversation. So thank you for all the brilliance you're sharing. So you say that it's easier to build a billion dollar company than it is a million dollar business. So I, you know, I'm just saying that I want you all to hear this again. So what Naveen says is that it's easier to build a billion dollar company than it is a million dollar company. So could you explain that?
Absolutely. I mean, think about it. When you are building a billion dollar company, you are actually solving a 10 million people's problem, hundred millions people problem. Because that's the only way you can create a billion dollar company. And when you are doing that, guess what happened? It becomes a cause. And A mission. And the best and the brightest talent want to work on the toughest problem. Best and the brightest want to work on something that will create a legacy for them, not just success. When people become successful, what do they look for? Significance. And if you give them the things that will make them significant, right? So when I started the company and said I'm going to work on things that are going to make illness optional, amazing things happen. Head of IBM Watson says, you know what? I have been working on this AI. You will need a very powerful AI to solve this problem. I'm going to quit a million dollar year job and I'm going to come and work for you for 100k because I want to help you solve this problem. The person is scientist who was at Los Alamos National Lab working on a bio defense technology. Say the technology that you need to solve the problem, we have it and I'm going to help you and I'm going to quit my job and I'm going to come and join. Do you know why? Because I suffer through a chronic disease and I almost doctor told me I'm going to be in a wheelchair and I'm a living example just changing my diet. I believe in you. I'm going to help you solve this problem. The people who are working on some of the translation science people from Craig Venter and joined. Here's one amazing thing happened when these people came together. Every venture capitalist start calling and say why are all these people coming? What are you working on? And guess what? The money followed. Because now we have this mission and they thought the FOMO is the biggest thing. No venture capitalists want to miss out on this next big thing. When you have these amazing people coming together, what if it is successful? Guess what? The money poured in and suddenly we have the business that we didn't even think we had. If I had said I'm going to build an iPhone app to find a roommate, anybody said good luck, have fun, right? Nobody's going, oh my God, I'm going to quit my job and help you. It's not something to care about. And that's literally what we have to say. Take our business and see how can we do what we do and help 100 million people live a better life and find a way to focus on helping every single individual and make it a purpose and make it a cause. And when you live the life of a purpose, you can create not only a billion dollar company. Remember doing good and doing well are not mutually exclusive. The only way to do well is to do good in the world. So find a thing that helps solve a million people's problem. You can create a billion.
Oh, my goodness. Do. Do good to do well.
Yeah.
And do well to do good. So that says it all. Now, speaking of the ideas, one of the things that we're working on at this event is helping people to scale their business to add on other revenue streams, to create recurring revenue and so forth. So what do you feel? So a lot of business owners have been pivoting in this last year. What are you. When. When you're thinking of, okay, I'm going to add on a new revenue stream, or, you know, we've got viome now we're going to add this whole other piece to the company. What are some things that you look for when. When taking these steps?
Again, I'm going to slightly correct you. The revenue comes from solving the problem. So we didn't come out. And so, for example, when we started the health kit, our goal was to understand what's happening inside the people's body. Told them, what is your cellular health? What is your gut health? What is your biological age? How is your immune health? So God forbid you catch. Catch COVID or catch flu. What is going on inside your body? And then we realized that was only part of the problem, because we told them, here are the foods you should not eat, and here's why you should not eat them. So it told me, don't eat broccoli because broccoli is going to hurt you because you have very high sulfide production. Don't eat spinach because you're going to. Because you cannot digest oxalic acid in spinach. Don't eat tomato because the histamine in tomato is going to cause you the issue. Then we say, now, if we can't eat these foods and here are the food they can, how do we get the nutrients that they're lacking? So we say, you know what? Now, what if all the nutrients that are in the food that are missing, what if we can put, for each individual, make those supplements for each individual on demand in the doses they need them? So we didn't come and say, let's add a revenue stream. We said, how do we help this person? And we say, no, this person cannot buy this anywhere on the shelf because they need 22 milligrams of elderberry, they need 7 milligrams of curcumin, they need 17 milligrams of amylase. And you know what? We're going to make that capsule robotically that day for each Individual and ship it to them. And guess what? Every month we're going to give them this action. Then we're going to remeasure them to see how it improved. And whatever didn't work, we're going to change it again to understand why it's not working for them and keep retreating the cycle. At the end of one guess what happened. We created a subscription business. We created the recurring revenue, but we didn't go out to say, all right, so now we have this business. How do I add a subscription business? How do I add a recurring revenue? Because we stayed focused on how to help that customer, who is my customer, how can I make them feel better? And everything flew from that. Right? So point is always look and say what would you do to make your customers life better? And if you stay focused on it, revenue stream will take care of itself. And here's very interesting thing happened, Addison. Everybody before we went to this business, everybody we talked to in the business of supplements and they say, oh, even if you do this every month, no business in supplement you have more than three to four months people, people churn out in three to four months and you will have no customer after four months and you have to keep signing up a new customer. And I said that just cannot believe, cannot be true. So we did it. We launched and we now in the fourth month, we have 80% retention. Now why is that? Because we did not worry about subscription business. We focused on helping them. And when they people feel better to because it is designed for each person, guess what? Why would they want to give that up? And secondly, they cannot buy this product anywhere else. Either us or they say, I don't care about my health. So point was doing things that worked for people is what allows you to retain your customer. If you created a subscription business, people feel sold. When they feel sold, they churn. When they feed, they are bought into you, then they stay.
Yeah, that is such a brilliant answer. And it's so true. That's what we've done in our business. Pinnacle Global Network. We're on a mission to help millions of business owners to transform their lives. And because we come from that place, we have so many business owners that just stay with us year after year after year. And so I love that idea is instead of just saying, okay, what can we create as a subscription program, what problem are we not solving for this customer that we already have? Yes, I love that. So, all right, I'm going to switch gears a little bit and I want to talk about team because you've obviously built big teams. You've been a leader of big teams. It's an area that business owners struggle a lot with. There's a lot of frustration. I can't do I have the right people. I can't get them motivated, all of that. So can I. Can you share some tips on building teams?
Absolutely. My number one tip is when you are looking for a friend, you want someone who is just like you, who is, you know, who thinks like you, who laughs at the same jokes, watches the same movies, does the same thing, and really is like you. When you're looking for a teammate, you want someone who is unlike you, people who fill in the gaps in the thing. Because every entrepreneur believes they can do everything. But you have to know, what are you really, really good at? And you can do it better than anyone else. You focus on that and then you hire the talent around you. And here's the trick. You have to leave them alone, and they may not be the guy who will be doing rara. So for me, I am the person who is a cheerleader who is out there and telling, here is a new trees. Here are the new forest. Here is the new way we can create. But there is a person behind me who's saying, you keep cutting the trees, I'm going to keep building the road. I hope you know where this road leads to. And I believe in you, and I know that I don't need to worry about that. As I'm cutting the trees, there is nothing behind me because there is a person who is building the foundation, the road right underneath you. And that's the kind of things you build a team. And the secondly is when we hire people, we look specifically, are these people joining us because they need a job or are they joining us? They believe in the purpose, and that is really the trick. And partly we say, okay, if you join us, we're going to pay you less than everyone else, but we are going to give you the piece of the equity in the company. So we all believe that when we succeed in our cause, we all benefit. But if you need a job and you don't believe in us, go find someone else where you really need that. And once you have people who believe in you, who believe in the purpose, guess what? They stay with you and they work harder than ever for you because they want to solve the same problem, right? So I think enroll them in the mission. Find people who are unlike you and you have to respect because their talent is different than yours. And you say, since they. They don't have the same thing you do. You don't respect them because oh, you are not a cheerleader. You cannot communicate this thing effectively. Guess what? It's not their job. Their job is to make sure your ass stays in the chair, not in jail.
Well, I mean I, I think it's, it all comes back to the vision thing that you say, right. If you, with the vision you attract the customers, with the vision you attract the team. Right?
That's right. Yeah. And enroll them into the mission. My point is you have to find people who believe in your vision, they enrolled in the vision and not simply joining just because a job. And that is the trick. And finding people who are complementing your skills, who are not just like you, they are also rara and cheerleader. You need people who are simply going to do their accounting and do the best accounting that you can possibly have. People who are going to work on the logistics and they just care about making sure everything is going to be there on time. And they may not be the persons on the front end can have be the person on CNBC talking about how this business works.
Yeah. And so this leads me. So one of the things we teach a method called the scale it method. And a lot of it is getting the visionary, the CEO out of the weeds of the business to work on the bigger picture strategy. Right. And but a lot of them, we, and we talked about this earlier, have a hard time letting go. They're afraid to let go. They hold on, they're doing a lot of the tasks in the business. What's some advice you could give them? Because I know it's scary to let go. They're afraid.
Oh God. It's great question by the way, Alison, because this is one of the. Every first time entrepreneur and leader suffers through that. So one thing I realized was that when I let go, I first of all absolutely accept they're going to be 70% as good as I am. But guess what? Now I got 70% more than I had before because there was only 100% of me. Now I have 170% right there. 70% is good. And when I hire all these people, even if they are 50% good, I'm constantly leveraging my strength. And the more people I have who are helping me towards that, they may not be as good. But guess what it allows you to do. Get more, more work done around you and allows you to focus on what I am really good at. That means looking out and seeing where do we go now? What are the next set of things we could do to help these customers? What are the problems that we need to be solving? While people every day say, making sure the kits are being shipped right, People are getting their supplements on the right time, people, everything that just needs to be working. I don't have to worry about it. I have my chief operating officer who does that. And every day I sit down with them and say, remember, you are my partner. Without you, I cannot survive. Don't think I am your boss. I count on you to make this venture successful. Without you, I would die. So give them that respect that they need. Because without that respect, they think, you know, this person doesn't respect me. Why would I work hard for him? Right. So you have to give them a reason that they're willing to dedicate their life. And this idea, most entrepreneurs suffer from this idea of work life balance. So I'm not just handle that. Oh my God, how do I find a balance between I'm so driven and I'm working on the thing my family thinks I'm just really not spending time with them. So what I realized is when you want to find a balance, you're already concluded that your personal life and a professional life cannot actually live together. That's why you have to find a balance. Right. Once you see my life is a continuum. In that continuum, there are some days there is more of one and there are other days there is more of other. But there is never going to be a balance. When our kids are sick and some family is sick, you know what? I take a day off and I take care of them. And when the business needs me, I tell them I really need to be here and I'm going to be dedicating the next two weeks and you're not going to see me and I'm going to focus here and get this thing done. And then I go back and say, honey, let's go out and take a week off and we're going to go do some cleaning.
Right? Right. Yeah. And really just forgiving yourself for that. I think a lot of business owners really do struggle with that. So. And we're hard on ourselves, like, oh, I'm failing here. Because you know, you can't be in all places at once.
And also remember that your children are watching you. So don't think just because you don't spend enough time with the children, you are ignoring your children. In fact, I just want to say it because I saw it. When our children grew up, I asked them, I said, did you ever feel I was working so hard that I was really not being there for you. And they said, dad, the fact every time you sat down and spent an hour with us, we knew that was the most important thing you have in your life and you gave it to us. So every time we knew the time that you were giving us was the most expensive thing you had and the quality of that time was the best we could have had. In fact, they always told me that everything we learn by watching you do, the fact is we realize that success doesn't come from easy. It comes from very hard work. And when we saw you, we realized that nothing that we're going to do is going to be easy on us. It's going to take a long, hard work. So when they started their businesses, they were prepared to work, worked, you know, 16, 17 hour days, seven days a week. And when our kids were here last weekend, and it's really interesting to watch them, they're constantly working hard. And I say, we got five minutes. It's a dad. Let me just finish a call. I'll be right there with you. My point was new and I realized that that five minutes they're going to give me is going to be the most, the best time, best thing they're going to give.
Yeah, well, you've been there. You can so relate, right? So well, I love that. And one of the things that you mentioned earlier, and you know, as I said, we run Pinnacle Global Network, we have this amazing community of business owners. So what has that been for you? And just the power of business relationships, not trying to do it on your own, getting support. What are your thoughts there?
So couple of interesting choices of word you use the relationship. And I think that's one thing we as a business owner never understand, which is many of us look at everything as a transaction. And when you are in a transactional business, you can never ever ask for favors. Right. When you build the relationship, the relationship is what really lasts forever. So I'll just give me an example. The reason I was able to call my business partner because we had that relationship for them to understand you're going to be a good partner. If they looked at us as a transaction, they could have said, it is what it is. Learn to live with it. Right? And to me, building these relationships, to me, every time you meet someone, don't focus on what can you get out of them. Focus on what can you do to help them realize their moonshot. And here's the amazing thing that's going to happen. Every one of them is going to come back and help you achieve your goals because you were focused on them. So if each one of us, there are hundred thousand of us, each one of us focuses on ourselves, how many people are worrying about me? One person. If every one of us focuses on everybody else but US will have 999,000 people, 999 people focusing on each one of us. And that's the beauty, is that always when you meet someone, you genuinely listen to them. Don't try to think about what I'm going to say next and answer them, listen to them and genuinely sincerely say, alison, what can I do? What can I do to be helpful to you? And if you sincerely desire to help people, sense it in your voice, not is there anything I can do to help you? And it's like, just go away. The best thing you can do. And point is, when you do that and even if there's nothing, honestly nothing comes out of that universe is watching. And there's going to be a time, there's going to be someone who is going to come along and say, naveen, what can I do for you? And they will do that for you and expect nothing back in return. And it's amazing. Don't look at every transaction individually, but holistically it will come right back to you. So believe in the universe and the world will be just fine.
Yeah. So beautiful. And you are so generous. I mean, when I reached out to you, we just had wonderful conversations. So present and really, you know, you coming and supporting or you're helping so many business owners break through. Can I just get the hearts up here for Naveen? Is this been so tremendous? So tremendous. I have one other question I want to end with. Because you say that entrepreneurs are superpowers.
Oh my God. Yes.
So let's just. Because I think that's a great note to end on here today.
Yes. Yes. Allison, first of all, I want to thank you for hosting me here. So the reason I believe is if you go back in olden days, some of the biggest problems were solved by the kings and the queens and the aristocrats and the Fortune 500 companies. Today, these problems are being solved by an individual who had a vision to go solve that problem. You look at going to space, it is not the superpowers who are going to space. It is the individual entrepreneurs. Their companies are going to the space. It is not the government. The Obamacare or Putin care is going to solve our health care. It's going to be one of us who's saying enough is enough. You, your daughter, you, I are going to solve this problem because we going to go do that and literally whether it is agriculture, whether it is energy, people can sign the Paris treaty and this treaty and that treaty and then the Elon Musk who said I'm going to go out and build electric car. No one has to build a car company, but I'm going to build an electric car company. And people thought it was the craziest idea. No car company has been created in 50 years, let alone an electric car company. And today's market cap is close to a trillion dollar. Made him one of the richest person in the world. Guess what? He didn't want to be the richest person. He went out to solve the problem of carbon. He solved out the problem of climate change. He went out and said I'm going to build something that is going to be actually better for the humanity. And that's the kind of people really went out and succeed. So what I mean to say is today you and I and everyone listening to it has access to all the technology that used to be available only to the few people. It doesn't matter what part of the world you are in, you can find access to people, access to resources, access to research that you need. So just dream so big that people think you're crazy and never be afraid to fail.
Oh gosh, so inspiring Naveen. And one last thing because I do think this is important. A lot of people think oh we're like living in terrible times but we're living really in the most abundant time ever of history.
I mean if you notice that people the poverty is down any which measure of the things you look at, we live better today. But remember, every single problem is an opportunity for an entrepreneur. Covid has brought us the opportunity that never existed before. Who would have thought we would be doing these virtual events? I mean heaven said people thought that was a seclusion. Look at it. Here we are in doing these amazing things to bring people together. So I really think that there is a silver lining to every single cloud. So just let's go out and make the best of it and let's go out and help a billion people live healthier life.
Let's do it. I'm excited. Are you guys excited? Let's give Naveen, how about the hearts? Let's hold up the hearts and blow up the chat here. This is so, so great. Naveen, they absolutely love you. I love you. You're amazing.
Thank you, thank you.
And so thank you, thank you. And I know our VIPs are going to be able to come in and ask you some questions, and we're going to get into that next. But, yes, thank you for sharing your heart.
Thank you.
And thank you for being on a mission to solve these big world problems. And I think you've just inspired a lot of other entrepreneurs do the same.
Thank you, Alison.
