I think the mistake that most people make is that they are. They're nervous to sell on social. Then when they do sell on social, it feels super awkward. And if you're building your email list through trust and rapport and serving, then you sell where people are expecting that.
So you've worked with some big brands, and, you know, what do you feel like for you, I mean, you talked a lot about different things, but the real pivot for you when you saw things start to go on that upper trajectory.
It's always help. I mean, it's always help. Whenever I'm asked that question, like, what's the number one mistake that you made? Or you. If you could do things differently, you would do it. I. I wish we would have invested in help sooner. Help in terms of hiring a coach, a mentor, and also finding the right people, letting go of things sooner. Because I always believe, like, well, you know, I'm gonna let go of this place. I still need to do this. Not true.
Yeah. That's a big one. It's so hard, right, to let go. And. And then we also feel like we know all the answers. Like, I know my business, right? Yeah, but you're not taking me longer.
To explain that to someone else.
Oh, yeah, I know. But then you just keep doing it over and over and over. Now you've talked before. I remember there was a post you did recently, and I thought it was so, so good. Your husband had put these sticky notes up of, so sweet. I love you. You're awesome. How many of you would love it if your spouse put these little notes? I mean, beautiful, right? And so you got on there and you said, I just. I cracked up. It was just so true. You go, thank you. Thank you so much for all of you that pointed out the bad grammar that my husband used.
He forgot his apostrophe.
He forgot the apostrophe in your. Okay. And you're like, thank you, but no thank you. Right. I mean, I'm telling you, that kind of stuff drives me nuts, so. But you've talked about that. There's. Sometimes you want people to unfollow you. Yeah. Talk about that for a second.
I mean, that's an opportunity right there for me to not worry about whether everyone likes me or not. I need to let the grammar police know I'm gonna give you a heart. We should break up now because, A, I'm not interested in you not getting the big. I'm looking for my big picture, girls and guys. I'm not looking for the person who's like, oh, your husband forgot an apostrophe. Re. Bye. Like, leave. And so you actually have to be okay realizing that you. The more you can niche down who it is you're serving and be okay with the fact that you offend people. Another example of that is we will often in our emails, I'll start the email off with dude, because that's how I speak. I'm from the 80s, I'm certified in hairspray. And so I'll be like, dude, okay, you have. And we inevitably will get People say, I'm so offended that you would use that language. It's like, okay, good, because I would never want to work with someone like that. But there's someone out there who will. But I'm not going to like dim my light because you have a problem with that.
Dude. Yeah. And see, here's the thing. Every one of you have different languaging. You don't have to have the languaging of Chalene whatever. Yours is like just being real. That's really what you're saying here. Now what about for the people that say, okay, I'm getting good engagement, but I'm not closing sales?
Yeah, yeah.
So what's your advice there?
You do have to sell at some point. I mean, you have to have these things planned out so that there's a certain period of time where I know I'm going to lose followers because I am asking for the sale. But I don't sell in social media. Social media for me is about building that trust and, and bringing them onto my email list. So all selling for us really happens on our email list where we're then driving people to a live video on a platform that we host. But I really do not sell very rarely on social. And even like everyone's so desperate to get the swipe up, you don't need the swipe up on Instagram. You know what I'm talking about, right? When you hit 10k, you get the swipe up. Swipe up just sends people away and you don't even know what they're doing. Instead, say to people, if you're interested in knowing more. DM me, it's much more personal and much more effective than just a swipe up where you're sending people away. It's about those personal conversations. So I think the mistake that most people make is that they're nervous to sell on social. Then when they do sell on social, it feels super awkward. And if you're building your email list through trust and rapport and serving, then you sell where people are expecting that.
Yeah. And we talked about earlier in driving people to a free gift and opt in. That's really what you're talking about. And then you're nurturing them. So it's really. So you're saying it's engagement, really building the relationship.
Yeah, yeah. Knowing what people are really struggling with, know what the problem is, your person, what is the problem you solve? And is it obvious? When I go to your Instagram bio, do I know what problem you solve? Because if I don't, I don't have much time to decide if I want to follow you or not. So you better tell me what problem it is you solve. And then every post, just look at the post and go, is this serving anyone or am I trying to like, present an image? Am I letting people know who I am or am I trying to present an image?
So you work with your husband and I work with my husband. How many of you are family run businesses? Yeah. Any piece of advice for when you're working with anyone here have any challenges working with their spouse? There's a lot of laughter going on. It's all smooth.
Yeah. Well, it was horrible at first. I mean, it was really horrible. Really, really, really horrible. Did I mention really? And we went to therapy and learned how our language, how we need to communicate with each other, and how some of the language I was using was emasculating and not very kind. I would say I need help with my thing today or in my business. And we just learned that it's our thing. That's the first thing. And then just really recognizing that you can't. If you're working with a partner, whether it's someone you're married to or your own business partner. I'll bet even if you're not working with your significant other, if you have a partner, it's likely because you have opposite strengths. So don't be pissed off when they can't do the things that you can do because you can't do the things they can do. Instead, praise them, recognize them, see the blessing in it. Do everything you can to lift them up. I see so many couples who are just. They make terrible remarks about each other in jest. And it's like that stung and that was rude and you've made everybody else uncomfortable and you've just damaged your relationship. And have sex more. You really need to have more sex.
And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for coming to level up live.
This guy right here. The only note he wrote down the entire time I was up.
I know. Just have more sex. That's all we need. Well, I think that about sums it up. Thank you. I hope you found this valuable.
