This is a YouTube video titled "What Happens When You Start to Say 'Yes' (ALLISON MASLAN)" featuring Allison Maslan delivering a business tip from her office in San Diego, California. In this video from May 2012, Allison discusses the importance of learning to say no in order to create space for meaningful opportunities and achieve one's big picture vision in business and life.
Hi, it's Alyson Maslin, and I'm here today at my office in San Diego, California to bring you another business tip that you can walk away with today and apply immediately for your business and your life. Today I want to talk about saying no and feeling comfortable saying no. A lot of us have a really hard time saying those, that two letter, tiny word because, you know, we don't want people to be mad at us. You know, we want to fit in all of those things. And sometimes, you know, you say yes to things and inside you're thinking, I don't really want to do that. And then what happens? Resentment builds up. And over the long term, if you're a real people pleaser, you know, you really can kind of lose your identity and you never truly fulfill your dreams and reach your potential in business. It's crucial that you learn to say no. In fact, Warren Buffett, who is, you know, one of the wealthiest men in the entire world, says that one of the reasons that he is so successful is he's really mastered the art of saying no, sometimes more than saying yes. And the reason is that when you say no, you make more room for your yes. You need to get really clear on what it is you want to create in your life. I call that your big picture vision. Where do you want to take your business in the next six months? Well, if you've got some pretty high goals, like I think you do, you've got to make room for that to happen. And, and if you say yes to everything that comes your way, even sometimes, if you feel like it's a good opportunity, you need to really get quiet with yourself. Ask yourself, is this moving me towards my big picture vision, or is it going to throw you off your path? And if it is, you've got to learn to say no. Now. It's kind of like ripping the band aid off. It's hard for a second, I know, but I think you'll be surprised that people will actually respect you more when you stand and resolve for what you believe in and what you want in your life instead of caving and being kind of a willy nilly. So I want you to practice saying no. I mean, even with those around you, your friends and your family, and doesn't mean you have to be mean, but they have to understand that you have these objectives that you want to achieve in your life. And to do that, you've got to make the room to make that happen. And to make the room to make that happen, you've got to say no. All right, so say no so that you can have more room for. Yes? It's Allison Maslin. I'll be back soon with another business tip for you.
