Allison Maslan explains how to identify your first hires when building a company that runs without you. Start by analyzing your daily tasks and the skills you need to delegate, then hire for those gaps first.
You've decided to build a team at managed company that can thrive without you, who do you hire first? Well, the first thing is you look at that list that you created, all the things that you're doing every single day that you are buried in, and you need to look at what's taking up most of your time. And then you look at all of the complementary tasks and say, okay, what kind of person, with what kind of skills, talents, experience would be able to do that? So if it's putting all of your events together, maybe it is an event coordinator. If it's more operations that you're buried in, maybe you need an operations manager or an operations coordinator, or maybe you just need an assistant that's able to multitask. So the first thing is to create that awareness of who are the people that you need to hire next.
