Coach Ambereen's daughter couldn't sleep after asking why God would take her grandmother if God loves her. She asks how parents answer when kids ask questions about death and loss that adults can't fully explain, even with faith.
Beautiful day to you. I hope today brings with it moments of just amazingness, whatever that may mean for you. If you define beauty as the tree behind me to the sunrise, the sunset, or just those moments in your day when you can actually be fully connected and engaged in whatever it is that is going on. I have, like this pondering question for many of you, and I'd love for you to answer it. What do you do when your kids ask you a question that you really can't answer? Last night, pretty late into the night, my daughter couldn't go to bed, and she asked me, she said, you say, God loves me. So then why did he take my grandma away from me? I know these thoughts are in her mind because she truly was so connected to her grandmother. Often she'll tell me that her grandma is somebody that she loved more than anybody else, even me. And I find that so fascinating and so beautiful because what a bond that must have been for them to be so, so, so joined, so engaged and such a remarkable friendship, I would say, that they had, which I saw unfolding, you know, day to day. And I couldn't answer this question for her, so I thought to say that, you know, sometimes we can't really understand what happens in our lives, but we know that it's best for her. But how could I say it's best for her when my daughter is feeling so much pain and, you know, she's having even a difficult time going to bed because she's so saddened by the fact that her grandma is no longer with us. So please share with me how you would answer that question or how you would answer a question where your kiddo is unable to process what's going on, you know, with life. And I think resorting to spirituality is a good answer. But a lot of times kid needs more than just spirituality and maybe for them to make sense of what has happened because truly for her to not have that relationship anymore, she feels like there's a void in her life.
