Health + Self Reflection to Kiddo's Reaction

Coach Ambereen records a late-night, first-person reflection after sustaining a painful volleyball injury while playing with her daughter. She uses the incident to highlight gratitude for bodily abilities, the importance of mindful self-talk, and deliberately choosing a measured, higher-response (not reactive) stance in interactions—especially with her straightforward child—and closes with supportive well-wishes.

Mindful day. I pray that today has been a day where we take bits and pieces and actually do things intentionally while being fully aware and mindful of the stuff that's going on in our house and in our lives. I'm recording this super late for you. A lot not traditional and conventional of me had a. An incident while playing volleyball. I kind of sprained, twisted, and someone landed on my foot all at the same time within just nanoseconds from each other. And what I started to realize is there's so much that we take for granted. You know, I'm able to move at pretty, a pretty fast pace without thinking twice, able to lift things up, able to, to grab, to kick, to push, to hop to all the stuff that, you know, that we do. And often we don't really take an audit of all the things that our bodies are doing to provide for us, to make us feel whole and functioning. And it was a tough one because I was playing with my daughter, who is a very straightforward kind of girl, and being short forward, something I love about her. But as we were playing and after we got done, I couldn't put really my shoe on properly when I took it off to kind of massage it after the fall. And she's like, mom, I think you're being a little too dramatic. And instantaneously I just want to get. Be like, oh, you have no idea how much pain I'm in. But I said okay the first time. And then I saw her kind of repeating the patterns, getting, trying to get a reaction because she's like, well, I sprained my ankle all the time praying, but it's not a big deal, so why is this a big deal for you? And she did it again. And in that moment I had to ask myself, am I going to respond? Am I going to react? If so, how am I reacting? And I chose the higher route, the courageous route of reacting by saying nothing, which really did take a lot because I was in a lot of pain. Honestly, it was in a lot of pain. And I didn't know what it was because it almost felt like a fracture after the fall because it kept getting. My foot really swelled up, swelled up a lot. It started to get hot, I got sick, got a fever, couldn't really, you know, do anything on it. And I realized that how many times in our lives, you know, do we let other people dictate our reactions and control the way that we want to respond? However, when we do a lot of self talk or we just ask ourselves, like, hey, how would my best self show up. What's the right next level action of integrity? How do I want this moment to be remembered? These simple ways of asking questions really embark us on a journey of self discovery. To know that there's a version of us that we haven't really tapped into, which is so much greater than this very moment at this very situation. With that said, really am praying that these, you know, insights help you every single day like they do me. Because it helps me kind of align, reflect and provide yourself along with me ways of bettering our our families. Right are the people that impact us on a day to day basis. With that said, sending you a ton and ton and ton of umbrelji and a whole lot of goodness. Take good care. This is Ex mom signing out by.
