Shutting Down Your Voice Shuts Down Your Marriage

When you shut down emotionally, your partner often withdraws further. Ambereen explains how negative self-talk creates a cycle where a stressed husband goes silent, his wife feels rejected, and her over-communication pushes him deeper into shutdown. The fix: let each other cope without judgment.

Everyone has an opinion. Sometimes you meet people who share every single thought in their mind. Other times people are just completely quiet. Now continue listening to really unfold for yourself what we're losing in those conversations. More importantly, hey, if it's your first time here, my name is Ambereen and my mission is to make family development a priority. Let's dive into talking about you, the center of your life, right? Are you like Barbara who has positive uplifting thoughts, or are you more like a Debbie who really thinks negatively about yourself? You see, the way you perceive yourself can be either a way of liberating yourself and stepping into freedom, self-expression, or it can kind of shut you off in a cocoon. I myself have been in both places. I was my biggest critic and my biggest champion. And I, what I realized in this is the way I perceive myself is the way that the world perceives me. So drop in the comments and let me know, are you a Barbara who has positive thoughts, or are you like a Debbie who has negative thoughts? And throughout the conversation, what I'm going to do is I'm going to weave in how our thoughts can either give us the autonomy to be free or really start to shrink us and destroy our life. And so this also plays a huge role in our marriages. Your partner has flaws. Congratulations, we all do. Nothing new here. And oftentimes when we attach something, like let's say your husband is— he's just in a really stressful place, and the way that he copes with stress is he completely shuts down, stops talking. And you, on the other hand, feel like this is a personal attack, like you've done something wrong, you've caused him stress, and now you start to see that you're over-delivering, you're over-communicating, you're over-asking, and it almost starts to barricade him, giving him more of a— more reason to go a little bit deeper into his quietness. Now he's dealing. What would it mean to have freedom in this situation? Drop in the comments what you think it would really be to give him the freedom to fully express himself so he can have the autonomy to deal with life stresses in this way, while you also realize that you have the freedom to let him be, which then pours into our family. And when our family sees that the energy of the home is one that's inviting, one that's accepting, one that is showing the children that, hey, sometimes healing means course-correcting the thoughts that I have for myself because I don't take enough credit for the things that I do. So I really am usually frustrated and angry with all of you when in reality that frustration is inside. But what you're doing is you're penetrating this all throughout your home. Drop in the comments below and say, I understand, if you know what I'm talking about. This energy that we carry of stress, of negativity, of frustration and irritation, burnout, overwhelm, actually starts to become a language in our homes that our kids are picking up. And you and I both know you don't want to be that parent. You and I both know you don't want to be that partner. You and I both know you don't want to be that person. So what do you gotta start doing differently? You gotta start to prioritize your family. And how does it begin? It begins with you because you are the center of your life, I had said in the beginning of this conversation, and that's still very true. So I want you to take a moment right now and jot down 3 things that come to mind right now. Yes, jot 'em down. 3 things that come to mind where you are not taking enough credit, which is kind of spiraling you down a negative trend. When you become your own champion, when you see your greatness, when you see all that you do to keep the harmony of the home, to keep yourself collected and calm, to deliver the best version of yourself every single day, your family begins to notice. Now If this far you are resonating with this conversation, what I would really love for you to do is I would love for you to join our free community. And the free community is people who are just like you, me, Barbara, Debbie, John, Jim, where we all come together and really start to make family development a priority by starting to work on ourselves. So I pray this message served you. Until next time, sending you a ton of umberji and a whole lot of goodness. Bye now.
