Youth sharing wisdom from future self

Coach Ambereen leads teenagers in writing letters from their 33-year-old selves back to now. One student reads hers aloud: her future self describes better habits, less procrastination, and genuine optimism about life ahead. The exercise builds self-compassion and cuts through the pressure of comparison.

Joyful day to you. I hope today brings with it moments that are just filled with smiles, laughter, presence, engagement and connection, if not so much more. However you define life as I come here every single week teaching myself something and sharing it with you today during our group coaching session. But I want to run with the adolescents. The question that I had asked them was what are some stresses that you have in life? And many of them compared the stresses of expectations. And they said there are two things that people often talk about, especially these younger generations. They'll say that we get stressed out because we're being compared to somebody else. And we get stressed out because there's such high expectation that other people have or even that we have of ourselves. And so what I had them do was I had them write a letter from their future 33 year old self to their current self. And these letters were something that then they shared during our session. I do have their permission to go ahead and share that with you here. And it is one of the most astonishing thing because as they read it, they felt empowered, they felt wonderful. And I reminded them, well, isn't that what you're saying to yourself right now? You are not in a future 33 year old self. You are sitting right here at your current age, whether that be 14, 15 and you're saying these words to you. All right.
Hey bro, how's it going? Are you enjoying life? I hope so because this is a letter that will mean a lot to you. If you're wondering who I am, I'm you from the future. Trust me man, you can get through this. You may be stressed or worried about something and I best tell you that those worries and stresses are only temporarily. You have held habits that will lead you to a stress free life. You'll stop procrastinating your homework and procrastinating in General. I'm currently 33 and we are living the best life we can. Don't give up on yourself. Know your hopes and dreams and you'll end up being the best you can.
So do that activity. Write to a future version of you, one that can be 10 or 15 year old, older, wiser, more confident, more competent, more congruent, more intentional, more joyful and share that with you. Give yourself the gift of wisdom, of lessons and learnings and teachings that your future self would remind you of in the current day, which will give you the tools that you need to remember to be who you are. And authenticity and being who we are is such an important part of not feeling and being compared to embracing our journey is something that we can do which has profound results and which add a ton of joy into life. I'm going to go ahead and include a small clip, an audio clip from their letters so you can see what these lovely kids talk about and how they cheer themselves on. With that said, sending you a whole lot of Umbergy and tons of good vibes. Take good care of.
