Day 2.5 Get Sponsors 2016Planathon.com

Jessica Kupferman walks through how to land sponsorships as a podcaster or blogger. You need a media kit showing your audience size and engagement, then pitch sponsors with a concrete proposal of what you'll deliver.
Hey, guys, it's Jessica Kupferman. First of all, I just want to commend you on doing the 2016 Plan A Thon with Amber McHugh. You are very, very smart because she really gets things ready and all planned out for the new year. And so congratulations on taking this first step. My job today is going to be talking to you about sponsorship and how ahead and get started trying to acquire. First of all, you should know that sponsorship is an equal exchange from a company who will give you financial compensation in exchange for exposure. Normally, when I talk about sponsorship, I talk about it for podcasters, but it also pertains to bloggers as well. And also events, either online events such as this one, or it can be live events that you're speaking at as well. Even if you don't plan the event, you can still get a sponsor if you're speaking, or even if you're attending. Make T shirts up and put logos on the back so that you can give exposure to your sponsors, even if you're just an attendee at a large event. So that's what a sponsorship is. And then let's talk about the first thing you need. So whether you're a blogger or a podcaster or an online content creator of any kind, what you need in order to pitch or present yourself to a sponsor is a media kit. A media kit is a PowerPoint, a keynote, a PDF presentation of some kind. And you can also do them as a one page on your website where you can explain the following things in this order. You explain who you are, what they're sponsoring, the audience demographics, or who the target audience is. And this is important because your sponsor needs to know that your audience is their exact right audience as well. So the demographics are very important. The next thing that's really important is your platform. So not just how many people are attending the event, how many people are visiting your website, how many people are listening to your podcast, or reading your blog. It's also about your entire online community, your social media channels, your email list, etc. Because what you're going to do at the end of the media kit, hopefully, is created packages that include all of your platform. So after you explain what the platform is, then you do some testimonials to show that the community that you've grown really loves and adores you. Because what sponsor could say no to that? And then finally we're going to do the ad packages and then the contact information at the end. So those are the things that you absolutely need for a media kit. As few words as possible. It's great if the media kit is a full, fresh glance each slide illustrating the point that you're trying to make without having to do too much work for the reader, AKA potential buyer. And then you send it off with a nice letter about how much you love them and want to partner with them. Because what you really need to remember with sponsors is that you're creating not just a win win, but you're creating a win win win. And a win win win is where you get financial compensation. Your sponsor gets.
