Day 3.2 Start Right with Video 2016Planathon.com

Holly G. breaks down video pre-production into four pillars: why you're making it, who you're making it for, what you're saying, and how you'll say it. Planning before you shoot saves time and makes your business video actually work.
Video is all about planning. So if you are ready to make 2016 your year of video, then I've got a plan for you. Holly G. Here your go to video gal and planning is my secret superpower. I love planning, creating systems and organizing. I totally dork out on this stuff. When it comes to video, people assume that the bulk of the work is at the back end in post production. Well, get ready to have your mind blown because the actual bulk of the work is done in the beginning during the Pre production phase. 60 to 65% to be exact. Why is planning so important? Planning is like having a treasure map. Without it, you're never going to find that elusive treasure. You'll just be wandering around aimlessly, hoping to stumble upon the treasure. Well, that sounds lame. I'm all about business cinema and business cinema is the way that I like to describe the next level video. Video with a plan, a purpose and a strategy. Not just creating video for the sake of creating video, but videos that actually help propel your business forward. In order to help you create some business cinema up in here and not just regular old videos, I'm sharing with you the four pillars of pre production. They are why, who, what and how. Let's talk about the first pillar of pre production. The why you always want to begin with the end in mind. That being said, you want to understand why you're actually creating this video. What are your overall video goals and how does this help you get closer to those goals? Pillar number two, the who know your audience? Who are you creating this video for? Make sure you understand who your audience is, especially if you're working with different ideal customers. Who is the intended audience? And then make sure the content you're creating is going to resonate with that particular audience. Pillar number three, the what your concept. What will your video be about? Last year I broke down how to brainstorm and plan out your content. So make sure you go back and check that out. But basically you're going to come up with a list of ideas for video content. Think about questions that you get asked all the time, or old written blogs that you can recreate as videos. Think about what's going to look good in a visual format. You get the idea. And last but certainly not least, pillar number four, the how. How are you going to actually create this video? The logistics of it all. Think about these four things. First, your skill level. Have you shot an edited video before? Are you willing to take the time to learn? Or do you have the time to learn? Keep in mind that no matter where you go, there you are. So regardless of your out outsourcing, whatever you outsource, you still need to be ready to be in front of the camera. The best investment that you'll ever make is in you. 2. Your resources. What equipment do you already have? What will you need? What editing programs do you have or will you need? You need to start thinking about those sorts of things. 3. Your budget. What's your budget? Do you have a budget? Video production and editing can get expensive, so keep in mind that you get what you pay for and what you're paying for is the experience of the person that you're hiring. And four your time frame, how fast you need it done. If you're learning as you go, make sure to give yourself enough time so you don't feel pressured to just like slap things together or worse, just give up because you're frustrated. So let's just do a quick recap. The four pillars of pre production are why who, what how? Why are you making this video? Who is the video for? What is the concept of the video and how are you going to create this video? Now is the time where you take action. You've got a solid gold pre production plan to help you create not just videos, but business cinema. And if you need any extra support, I am happy to help.
