This is a YouTube video titled "Labels Are Out of Style: Highlight Your Skills, Not Your Title" created in February 2016. The content features a monologue by Amber McHugh discussing the importance of describing the value and results you provide rather than focusing on job titles. The video includes a brief role-play conversation illustrating how to better communicate professional skills and outcomes to others, aimed at helping viewers improve their self-presentation in networking contexts.
Hey, everyone, it's Amber McHugh with niceops.com and today we are talking about your title. You know what you call yourself? Chef. Personal trainer. A web designer. The thing you tell people what you do when you're at networking events. People get caught up on what to call themselves. And trust me, I get it. It's hard to figure out the exact way to describe what you do. But I've got news for you. People care more about what you can do for them than the title you use. So we've got a new way for you to look at what you call yourself so you can get past the confusion around what title to use. Hi, I'm a yoga doer. I'm a marketing maven. I mean, I'm a goer. I'm a yoga goer. I'm the boss, the CEO. No, no, no. Call me a marketing online marketing strategist or a communication specialist. No, I mean I'm the founder or the coo. Just call me the coo. I go to yoga. Oh, yeah, yeah, the coo. I'm the coo. Call me the coo. So instead of that mess, let's simplify it. Tell people instead about someone you've helped and the results you got for them. Let's put this into play for someone that typically calls themselves web designer.
Hey, so what do you do?
I'm a web designer.
Okay, cool.
Yeah, that was really interesting. Now, what if instead we took that same conversation in that same scenario and you instead shared about the results that you've achieved with one of your clients?
So you're like a web designer. You design.
Let me give you an example. So I had this client, she sold soap and she had this awesome website, but it was not converting or getting her sales. So we totally remade her website. We amped it up and designed it for better conversion. And her sales have gone from like zero to quadrupled in less than six months.
Quadrupled.
Quadrupled.
I want some of that.
I know, right? Clearly, one of those scenarios is better than the other. Describe how you work with people and the results you achieve with them. And ears will perk up. Using this strategy is a definite conversation starter and will more clearly articulate to your target audience what you do and how you do it. And it will show them how you're going to get results for them. And results matter. Now it's your turn. I am dying to know in the comments, how are you going to talk about yourself going forward? Tell us and I will be there to see what you have to say. All right, everyone, thank you so much, so much for watching. Don't forget to like and subscribe, and I will see you in the next video.
