Melissa Opie talks about becoming a CEO and the inner work required to lead. She emphasizes self-trust and intentional decision-making as the foundation for entrepreneurial success.
Hey, Melissa opie here from melissaopie.com and I'm here to talk about making decisions as a business owner. So my zone of genius lies in the scariest place of all, which is inner work as a human being. Before I was an entrepreneur, I was horrible at making decisions. After I became the CEO, I mean. Okay, so you know that thing about how starting your own business is like the greatest self development journey you'll ever go on? Yeah. It wasn't for you. The good news is I clocked in for the last time at my day job about a year and a half ago, and I've been able to replace that income working for myself. Yay. So what does making decisions have to do with this? Well, quite frankly, everything. Because each and every moment you're faced with a decision. A decision to be a certain way, to show up a certain way to react a certain way, or to do a certain thing. So if you suck at making decisions, you're pretty much not taking charge of your life, and that's not good for anyone. So my challenge for you is start being present. Start being aware of all those tiny little moments in your day. Notice all those seemingly innocent moments where you have given away your power of choice. Because even if you tend to be more passive about things like me, and your natural way of being is all go with the flow, be intentional about it, do it. Because you chose to. For example, you noticed that Amber's very first video in Planet Con was committing to not doing it all. And I love that, because now you can own it. You are choosing. The more we practice making those little decisions, the easier it gets to stand on our own two feet, which goes hand in hand with trusting ourselves. Also very important as a business owner. And that turns into this amazing, unwavering inner confidence that helps you to become the leader that you are in a very natural way. So to bring it full circle, without me doing this very important work within myself, I would not be where I am today in my business. Remember that each and every one of us is creating our lives, whether we're conscious of it or not. So come 2016, I want to see you all shining confidently, trusting yourselves and making decisions like a boss.
