Can you have a Process for Growth Work?

Andrea Jones describes how her team standardized their chaotic hiring process into a repeatable system that works for any role. She argues the same framework applies to any continuous-improvement project, from invoicing to database upgrades, using what she calls the Execute Agility model.

Hi, I'm Andrea Jones, and today I'd like to talk a little bit about process. Think of a process in your business that runs really well and you don't have to worry about it. For example, we have really honed in on our hiring process. Did this a few years ago when we needed to bring some new people on relatively quickly, and it felt like it was scattered. We didn't know the types of questions we were asking, the order we were doing things in, Who was scheduling interviews? Who was doing what? So, we took some time and developed a mechanical hiring process. Now, if you think about it, the hiring process can be used for any kind of hire, right? It could be an accounting hire. It could be an ops hire. It could be even a leadership hire. And they're going to go through the same process. So, when we did that and had it going, it felt like we could be confident no matter who we needed to hire for any role in the company. Well, imagine if you had that for all of your continuous improvement projects. It didn't matter if you were improving the hiring process or improving the invoicing process or improving the inventory management process or improving the database improvement process or anything that you were trying to do. You had a process to do that improvement. Maybe those little things are called projects and you have a project management process. So, no matter what kind of project you're trying to do or what kind of thing you're trying to improve, you can run it through that project management process. That's exactly what the Execute Agility model is. You feed it your prioritized improvements or projects or processes to improve, whatever it is you need to do. And it runs with a team that knows what they're doing every time. And you don't waste time trying to figure out how to get it done. We would love to talk to you more about it.
