A seller's willingness to stick around after the deal closes matters more to buyers than you'd think. They want your help improving the product and pushing sales, not just your signature on the paperwork.
And I wonder if a lot of buyers think about enough is a way to change the sale prices around how much support you're going to provide after the sale. Maybe you want to cut clean and just sell the business and not provide much support but I think you'd be surprised where a lot of the time I found with buyers that we didn't sell to but with the buyers that we did sell to is they're really interested in what you know about the space and most of the time they want to keep you on board as a kind of advisor consultant even in a low kind of rate or a amount of days per month or something possibly indefinitely possibly for six months something like that they want to keep the relationship going because they see you as a really important kind of lever to keep improving the product if they feel like they can fund the marketing expansion and do the sales side of it they see you staying on and doing a bit of a product role within that.
