This is a YouTube video titled "To bootstrap or to get VC funding? It depends on your goals." containing a monologue or single-speaker discussion recorded in November 2024. The speaker explains the pros and cons of bootstrapping versus venture capital funding for entrepreneurs, focusing on control, equity, and growth strategies. There is no indication that Andrew Gazdecki is a participant in this content.
I always say if your goal is to make money, you should probably bootstrap because you can sell the business whenever you want. You have no approvals. You own the whole thing. Like Nathan, if you wanted to sell your business, that done, you don't have any investor approvals or saying no, you need to hit that billion dollar mark. But if you want to really disrupt the market or change your market or go a little bit bigger, faster, venture capital is just a tool to accelerate that. But it all comes with a cost. So the cost of bootstrapping is sometimes you have to do customer support for longer. You have to do some of these roles where you can't bring in, you know, talent earlier. And then the cost of venture capital is, you know, you give up equity and then control within your business. There's usually controls of you need approval to raise capital, you need approval, you know, sell your business. So everything comes with a cost and it's just pros and cons. But again, I think bootstrapping makes sense for 99% of entrepreneurs because, you know, the bar today is building a billion dollar business. And that's not easy to.
