A founder explains why he acquired Seamless instead of building from scratch, highlighting the value of an active user base even with low monthly recurring revenue. Acquisition gave him immediate users rather than starting from zero.
What stood out about Seamless to make you want to acquire. So the biggest thing that really made me like that business. If I could just sum it up in one reason. There's a lot of different kind of minor reasons, but the major reason was that it had 20,000 free users and the app shut down for a couple days with the previous founders due to some technical issues, and they just got inundated with emails saying I need this right now. And the users were super active. So even though it wasn't making the most MRR in the world, I really saw that as something valuable. For me personally, I think a company that isn't making so much money, but its users are super active, and if it shuts down for one day, people are freaking out. To me, that's more exciting than something that's making maybe a lot of MRR.
