Trailer excerpt from The Pursue Whole Podcast (Andy Maurer). Speakers discuss that emotions cannot be selectively numbed and emphasize leaders asking themselves and their teams what energizes them ("what lights you up", "what do you get excited to do" upon waking). The excerpt closes by signaling action items to move out of burnout.
One thing we know is that you.
Cannot selectively numb emotions. So if you don't like fear and you don't like loneliness and you don't like sadness or anger, you got to get the right people in the right seats, and you got to ask questions not only to yourself as leaders, but also to your team, asking, what lights you up? What lights you up in the morning.
When you wake up?
What do you get excited to do?
So here are some action items to move out of this type of burnout.
Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Pursue Whole podcast. We are excited to start this off, and one of the reasons why we started this was because I was noticing there were a lot of leaders who were coming to me asking questions about how they make sense of what was going on on the inside. A lot of these leaders, they, you know, they have coaches, they have executive coaches, they have other people who are helping them with fitness or nutrition. I mean, when I meet with people, one of the biggest questions I ask is, how can I best support you? And most of them say, I don't know what I need. We wanted to bring together experts in business and entertainment and human performance to bring to the forefront what are stories, what are techniques, what are tactics that we can apply to become better leaders and ultimately more whole human beings in our work, life, and relationships. Leaders carry a lot of pressure. Pressure about who they have to be, pressure to be on, pressure with demands and expectations, and everybody wants something from them. They want their money, they want their time, they want their resources. They want to be next to them. Leaders often don't have someone above them. They don't have a place above them that's built to pour into them. And we wanted to create that space. We wanted to have an outlet and a resource to let leaders know, hey, we're here for you. We hear you, and we want to educate you on how to deal with your stress. Vulnerability does breed high levels of performance. We just don't have a lot of people talking to us about that. We're going to ask some pretty important questions, like, how do I show up authentically as a leader? Why do I sabotage my most important relationships? How do I overcome imposter syndrome? What's the antidote to that? What do I do with this incongruence about what's on the inside and what's on the outside? Why do I feel guilty that my business is thriving during the pandemic? As a leader, you can't help but change the world around you. But as a whole leader, you're going to change it for the better.
