What a dominating victory this for the Alpine APL Pipers in their first game with the white pieces. And if that's the start, probably they are nothing short of favorites. favorites for the finals this year in Season 4 of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. Without further ado, let's call upon the Team APL Alpine Pipers. Alpine APL Pipers, the team right next to me. Magnus, I have to start with you. Y'all are favorites probably to go to the finals. Yeah, we are. finals win, and probably this year as well. But let's talk about you being a favorite with the Indian crowd, because they have come in massive numbers just to see you, watch you play, and just to support you.
Um, yeah, it's, it's always, uh, always nice to see. It's a big reason, of course, for me to, um, to come to India, because there's so much enthusiasm for, uh, for chess here. And yeah, it's always nice when we're— our names are being called. Um, uh, before the round, there's an extra cheer for our team, and I think all of us really appreciate that.
You know, you got those flowers. The fan that gave you those flowers, she's waiting for you since yesterday, and she came back again today because somebody promised her that they're going to make you meet her.
Yeah, um, um, uh, yeah, I hope, I hope she's happy with it, with that now.
Sure.
I'm sure. All the, uh, congratulations on today's win. Vidit, you like that introduction today?
Yeah, I mean, I was surprised.
Yeah, very inspired draw after that.
Do you know who suggested it?
Um, no.
The man right next to you and Sagar Shah.
Self-sabotage.
Yeah, in the team.
Yeah.
All right, let's move on to the Player of the Match award, which is being given by Mr. Suresh Shashi Dharan Pillai, celebrity chef. And the award goes to—
Anish Giri!
Thank you, Anish. You looked like a completely different player today. What were those moves? Such controlled play.
Well, I mean, he really provoked, really provoked me, and this sort of attacking plan is something that Magnus played against me many years ago, and he beat me there. And in today's game, he provoked the weakness, you know, first, and my opponent made the weakness himself. So it was basically the same thing but just much easier. That's why sometimes your painful experience can help you, you know, in future battles.
You learn from the past. Yeah, but complete domination today on board 1 as well as board 2. Now that y'all are going to play all whites, this is a great start for the team.
Yeah.
Well, it's looking good, but we should never celebrate too early. I think this format is really interesting, especially because there's no easy round. Every match is a big, big struggle. So I think it's early to celebrate, but definitely looking good at this moment.
Any reply to the self-sabotage comment?
No, I really— I mean, it was easy to suggest, uh, you know, all kinds of ridiculous introductions, but it really takes courage to pull it through and, uh, you know, put yourself on the line out there. And I hope the crowd appreciated it as well.
Instagram is definitely going to appreciate it because Because we already have a lot of memes coming in with the player introductions. This is going to be the next one, probably.
Yes, and hopefully there's more to come, and Vidit won't be the only one with the introduction like such.
Thank you so much for joining us. Congratulations on that win.
Thank you so much to Alpine APL Piper securing their first win with the white pieces.
That is it from the presentation ceremony. Back to you, casters.
That was an amazing presentation ceremony. With Anish in his, you know, humorous style talking about his game, and then Magnus also talking about why he loves coming to India. Or fair, you know that Vidit saying about self self sabotaging. And look at this who we have behind us in this area. It's the team, and Anish playing incredibly well there. Anish Giri just passed us from behind, and well, he deserves to be there. And absolutely the entire team of Alpine APL Pipers—it's wonderful to see them. And we have Vidit who is here. But Anish, well, you need to be bowed down to. What an amazing game he's played today! Fantastic chess. And Alpine APL Pipers. Wonderful, wonderful. It's time for us to go on a short break, and we'll be back with the next encounter.
Magnus, please. Magnus, please. Bye, Magnus. There's a restroom in the boardroom.
Yeah, yeah, that's fine. How long?
How long is it going to take?
About six minutes.
Yeah. Just to start the conversation.
Start the conversation.
I'll first have a word with them before we. Okay, okay, sure, sure. Hello. Hello. What time do you think? Uh.
