Hey there and welcome back to the Summer of Scripture on the Naked Marriage Podcast. We are on day 20. You guys, you've been in this for almost 20 days. I'm so excited about today because this is my life verse. These verses especially helped me through a time when I was dealing with anxiety and depression. This is one of those verses that I put on a piece of paper and I put it in my bathroom, in my car, on my bedside table. It was one of those verses that I just really clung to and I still cling to today, just especially when I'm in hard times or confusing times. And I hope this helps you today too. It's Proverbs 3, 5, and 6 and it says this. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will and all you do, and he will show you which path to take. You know, one of the translations is he will direct your paths. And you know, one of my actually, my first name is not Ashley. It's actually Elizabeth. Okay. Which I love. But I've never been called Elizabeth a day in my life. I wish I had been cause I love it. But I was born in the 80s and Ashley was all the rage. I was like Ashley M. Because my maiden's McCray for days on end. But Elizabeth is my actual name. And Elizabeth means God directed. And I love that because I think about this verse. Out of all the verses that I could cling to in my time of need, it's one that actually is my name. God directed that I want to have God direct my paths. And so I love that. And I know that all of you watching and listening, I'm sure there's been a time or two or three, multiple times where you've needed a verse like this that you, you don't know which way to go. You, you feel like you're maybe even doubting God. You're like, God, do you see me? Do you hear me? Do you even care about my situation? And I think right here, you know, in Proverbs, this is actually, you know, most believe that it was written by King Solomon. And I think it's just beautiful that he's reminding us that we can trust in the Lord, but that it takes us taking that step to trust in him and to not trust our own understanding. You know, when I was going through a four year battle with anxiety and depression, my mind was all over the place. It wasn't a mind, it wasn't an ordered mind, it was a mind of disorder. And the enemy was having a heyday with me. And it was in those times that I knew I had to trust scripture. Because we know that scripture is God breathed. It is true. And it is something that we can trust because it comes from God. And so I would cling to this verse especially when I was having confusing thoughts or thoughts that scared me and I would really cling to that. Don't lean on your own understanding, but just trust God and he's gonna show you that path. You know, there's a verse that talks about how God's word is a lamp into our feet, a light into our path. And I love how it uses, you know, the feet and the path, because it's not saying he is, you know, this, this light that shows us the. From where we are all the way to the end. If he's a light into, into my feet, you know, he's, he's giving me the path step by step, okay? Which means I have to trust him every step of the way. Because we don't see the whole kind of story until the end. We only see the story as it's happening. And so we have to trust him along the way. And I love this verse because it just reminds us of how important that is.

That's a beautiful reminder. And we all need God's direction in all parts of life. And the way he directs us is he wants to walk through life with us. He doesn't just want to be like a Magic 8 ball that we go to when we come to a crossroads and we shake it up and like, okay, God, do I go left, right or straight? Even though he wants to guide you in those moments too. But really what he wants most is to walk through life with you and to direct our thoughts, to direct our motives, to pick us up when we fall down and to just be right there guiding us through every aspect of the journey. And the whole book of Proverbs has been so meaningful to both of us. I got challenged when I was a young man to read a chapter from Proverbs every day. There's 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs. You can read a chapter in just a few minutes. And if you read one every day to correspond with that day on the calendar, then most months you can read through the whole book of Proverbs. And so I got into that rhythm and it became life changing for me because as I continued to put these timeless nuggets of truth into my mind, they really started to take root. And it brings more clarity to this confusing world when you see these principles of wisdom that God put there for our benefit, for our protection, and to help us know how to think, to help us know what boundaries we need in place to help us know how to act with money, with career, with relationships. It's all in Proverbs, in these little bite sized nuggets of wisdom. And so if you're unfamiliar with Proverbs, man, dive into it, dive back into it. It's a treasure. I wrote a Proverbs devotional called Think like Jesus through XO. And it's. There's 31 devotionals in there. And I think that could be a great resource for you and your spouse to go through together or for just you and your own personal time to go through.
And you have a young adult version as well.
Yeah, there's a young Adult version.
It's so good. And actually I remember I found it on our. Well, he's almost 16, our 16 year old's bedside stand where he was reading it too. And that just warms my heart. When I was younger kids. Yeah.
For them four young sons. And for our two teenagers wrote it specifically for the season of life. They're in. Like, what are the things that I wish I'd have known as a young man, as a teenager from God's word. And if you'll apply these things, it'll give you just a huge head start in life.
It will, it really will. And they're really, like you said, it applies to like every different facet of life. Sometimes they make you laugh too. Like there's some proverbs in there where you're like, Solomon, you are so funny. Like, it's so good. It's just like, it's truth. But it's like done in like such a. Just a funny ear. Like, wow, that's so true. But that's also kind of funny the way you said that. And so it's very interesting. It's just a really. It's a great book.
It fascinates me. And another little nugget from Proverbs is the last words of the book of Proverbs. Proverbs 31 is all about a wife of noble character.
Yes.
So good.
And how she is an absolute treasure. And it just lists out and celebrates some of the many beautiful attributes of a good and godly wife.
It's great.
I'm just so thankful to be married to a woman who embodies all that. I call her the Proverbs 32 woman. Because I'm like, you're at least one better than Proverbs 31. That is so that's a great thing to look at for you husbands to celebrate attributes in your wife. For you wives to look at and just feel celebrated.
Shows a lot of appreciation.
Yeah. And we should. It's an honoring. It's about honoring. And I think in marriage, if you will honor each other, there's so much power in that. Just honor one another, celebrate each other, thank each other, have gratitude for what your spouse is doing. And the book of Proverbs gives a lot of wisdom and insight into how to do that in practical ways. And I think that you'll be blessed as a result. So check out the proverbs and join us tomorrow, day 21, as we wrap up week three. And guys, tomorrow is Ecclesiastes. So it's gonna be another wise book. From Solomon, but a completely different take.
Totally different.
It's kind of like a midlife crisis. Honestly, it's wisdom through the lens of a midlife crisis.
But I feel like it's so human. That's what I like about it. Very human.
Very real, raw Uncle.
That's why it's in the Bible.
That's right.
I love it.
Every part of life is in there. So tune in tomorrow. We'll see you then.
