This is a first-person testimonial by Maria describing her experience with Long Covid and recovery using the Gupta Program. Maria contracted Covid in April 2022; while acute viral symptoms resolved, persistent fatigue (Long Covid) remained. She enrolled in the Gupta Program and reports a full recovery after three months the first time, then experienced reinfection about a year later and resumed the program. Her account emphasizes both physical milestones (returning to yoga, activity, social events) and deeper mental/emotional recovery (boundaries, self-relationship, pacing), and she suggests the program supports holistic living beyond illness.

So before I became unwell, I was living in Vancouver. I had been living there for about a year at that point. And I was very physically active and very mentally active. I was doing a yoga teacher training where I was doing yoga every day at 6am Very intense and physical yoga. Then I was also running and doing some exercise, very busy, and I feel, like a little bit stressed too. So that was kind of the setup for then me getting Covid. In April of 2022, I was feeling like I had a virus. And I got tested and it was Covid. But then what happened was that like the flu, the viral symptoms went away, but the fatigue stayed. And so I felt drained. And I was a month in to getting Covid, and I was still feeling very tired, exhausted. Every single minor tasks felt like such a hurdle. And so I started looking online for what I could do about this. I had heard a little bit about Long Covid, and I, like Ashok and the Gupta program, had come into my life when I was about 15 because my downstairs neighbor at the time had had chronic fatigue for about a decade, and he had recommended the meditations from Ashok. But then when I looked online and I saw that the Gupta program also treated Long Covid, then I enrolled right away and I got better, fully recovered in three months. But then I eventually got Covid later on, about a year later after that. And so I had to pick the Gupta program back up again. And I've been doing it now for a year. And the first time around that I had Long Covid, it was just hard to move, to do anything. So my days were spent between basically the bed and the sofa. And just I was also living by myself. So I, like, I had to cook or just take care of basic household stuff, but I didn't have much energy for anything else. And I did go to like the park down the street, but I would just walk over there and then lay down on the grass and then come back home to get a little bit of fresh air. And the second time around, it was a little bit less intense, the fatigue, but a little bit more prolonged, so it lasted longer. So the thing is, I did recover that first time in three months, but I feel like it was more of a superficial recovery in the sense that it was a physical recovery. I was able to go back to doing exercise, go out, see people, but I didn't do a lot of the inner work that I feel the Gupta program also allows people to do and kind of changing those mental patterns going deep inside, you know, the way I related to myself and the world. So I feel like that is why I relapsed. I didn't really go deeper into the emotional and mental recovery. So the second time around, yeah, it came back. But basically the milestones, especially the second time around, were like both concrete things of, like, being able to do yoga again, to see, go to family gatherings, social gatherings again, but also more subtle, like learning to put healthy boundaries, learning kind of healing the relationship with my own body, learning to pace myself more easily, say no when I wanted to say no. So I feel like now I just approach it in a much, much more holistic way, where it's not only like, am I being able to run or am I not having any pain in my body, but also, is my mind quiet, Am I peaceful, Am I motivated? I feel like it's a program that comes packaged as a program to heal from a chronic illness, which it is. But honestly, I feel like it's so much more than that as well. And I personally believe it could even benefit people that do not have chronic illnesses. Because for me, it's a program about holistic living, about finding meaning in your life, taking care of your mind, finding balance in your life. Not only might you probably you will recover from your chronic illness, but you might also start looking at life differently, maybe healing, heal things from the past and just kind of create a more loving relationship with yourself and with your body.
