William (speaker) describes a severe case of shingles that damaged nerves from his spine across his shoulder down to his elbow and evolved into chronic neuralgia lasting about three years. The condition caused constant burning/sunburn-like sensations that severely limited his social life and activities. After his wife Deborah introduced him to the Gupta Program, William changed his relationship to the pain (finding peace rather than stress), which he reports accelerated healing; he estimates about 75–80% recovery after three years and notes sensory changes (burning turning into an "itching" sensation) and increased willingness to leave the house.

My name is William. I came down with a bad, very bad case of shingles. And what happened at that point was basically a, a strong interruption and damage to the nerves basically from my spine across my shoulder and down to my elbow. And what happened there was that it then migrated into what they call a, a neuralgia. So that condition has actually lasted over these three years. It is chest like rubbing, a bad, bad, bad sunburn. It's like I didn't want to wear a shirt. I could, I walking around the house, I would have to be bare chested. And because it was a 247 kind of set of sensations, you know, they relax somewhat if I could distract my mind but otherwise they'd come back, that it became a self absorbing. You know, I was not as present to my wife, my granddaughter, when she visited and so on to friends, couldn't go out to go eat. It certainly shut down any kind of travel for a good couple of years. It was really major being housebound in so many ways, but also kind of closed in. I'm not an extrovert per se, but I do love being around and sharing love with other people. And that got closed down. My wife Deborah had introduced me to the program because she had some great success with it. By that point, I found that the Gupta program was a wonderful training. Not just because of a life condition or having other people be a certain way or the life, my job be a certain way or whatever, but that even my body doesn't have to be a certain way for me to feel peace or for me to feel love. And in that understanding, the wisdom of this program, which is that when you are in stress about it, you're going to slow the healing down. And when you're at peace about it, the healing can speed up. And so by changing that relationship, all of a sudden the healing can accelerate. And that's what I've experienced now. It's been a long healing. It's still three years. And I'd say I'm about 75%, maybe 80, but that's an amazing way. And all along the way it didn't matter if I was at 40 or 50 because each day I was getting a deeper experience of it's okay, it's okay, it's okay. First of all, the progress emotionally, as I've referred to, became more peaceful. The second thing is that I noticed physically, you know, when you've, you've cut yourself or you've scratched yourself, it's healing. It gets to that phase after it's scabbed over where it itches. It's not quite finished healing, but there's an itching going on. Well, at some point, I found that the burning sensations were beginning to also feel like they're itching. And I went, oh, okay, that's a good sign. You know, that it's a slow healing process, but at least I can see signs of what the body's doing, that there is a healing going on. I found that my willingness to get ready to go out and drive, go, go to the grocery store, that was a big deal. To put on a shirt or put on a jacket and go to the grocery store and be able to be with whatever sensations were still going to be there and have that, not stop. It wasn't. That wasn't a grit. My teeth. Will was like, okay, I can do this now.
