Adrian Anania says finance managers undercut themselves at the close by hedging instead of asking for the deal. His fix: present two concrete options and ask which one makes sense, assuming the business is yours unless they say no.

The thing I know most finance managers are afraid to ask the customer, or the conversation they're afraid to have, is very simple. They are afraid to ask for the business. They get to the end of option 1 and they start to forfeit things or remove things or whichever. It's like 30-year-old regurgitated sales stuff that never works. When they get to the end of option 1, they need to just simply go, "Now I set this up with the little faster equity option here at 60 months." And I also set it up at Saving Too Much at the term you previously selected. Let me know which one of those makes the most sense and we'll just go from there. They just need to assume the business. And if they don't say yes, you get in your ranking process and you customize that program immediately.
