The number one thing costing F&I managers gross is not their current customer. It is their last one.

In this short coaching video, Adrian Anania explains that the primary factor eroding a finance & insurance (F&I) manager’s gross profit isn’t the current customer but the lingering effect of the previous bad deal. He describes how a failed cash buyer transaction or an incomplete deal from the night before can create frustration that seeps into the next interaction, causing the manager to lose control and present a poorer experience to the new customer. Anania proposes a single, simple self‑check: “Are you in control of it?” If the answer is no, the manager should allocate five minutes to mentally process the prior loss, reset, and move on, thereby preventing the negative mindset from contaminating the rest of the day. By consistently applying this quick reset, the manager can avoid a cascade of poor months and protect gross profit.
