Adrian Anania explains why copying what top F&I salespeople do doesn't work. You need to understand why each step matters: how it pre-empts objections, sets the tone, and builds real connection. Mimicking the moves without the reasoning leaves you stuck.

You know why the top performer in your store is making you worse? Is really simple in F&I. It's because you're doing a bad impression of someone that you don't really know why they're even doing what they're doing. And the only way for these things to succeed, for you to mimic their tone, for you to do these things to make you a successful operator in your own right, is you have to know why these things exist. Because why it makes it so good when you're seeing it is what they actually did 20 minutes earlier. They set it up to remove objections before they could ever come up. And so when they deliver that tone, when they connected, it landed and you saw it. You thought you could just start at the end, but you never went back to the beginning because you're trying to mimic someone that's not you. And you have to become the operator yourself so you can deliver and that you can have the principles and foundation to never get lost in your process and always connect with whoever's across from you.
