A 100 Foot Sea Snake Is Taking Over Golden Gate Park!

In this video, Austin Klar announces a massive public art piece—a 100‑foot‑long, 25‑foot‑tall sea snake—being installed at Rainbow Falls Pond on the JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park. The serpent, originally created for Burning Man 2024, features thousands of handmade metal scales, bubble‑blowing mechanisms, and nighttime illumination. The installation includes additional elements such as structural shipwreck seating, street‑art murals, and interactive treasure chests. The project is a collaboration between the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and the nonprofit art organization Illuminate, and it was funded entirely through several hundred thousand dollars raised via crowdfunding. Unveiling events are scheduled for July 26 at 10 AM and a lighting ceremony on July 28 at 7:30 PM. Klar invites viewers to comment on the piece.
