An historic theater in San Francisco that's been vacant for the past 20 years is on its way to becoming housing. Developer Timespace Group and Gonzales Architects are pushing forward with plans to convert the Alexandria Theater at 5400 Geary Boulevard in the Richmond neighborhood into an 80-foot-tall structure with 75 apartments. The 1923 building was initially designed by the Reed Brothers and used as a theater until it closed in 2004, and it's remained basically vacant ever since. And it sounds like they're gonna be doing justice to the building's heritage, bringing back old pieces and design features of the building that were demolished over the years, as well as maintaining original murals. Love the idea of reusing iconic landmarks for housing, especially in great locations near the Presidio and Golden Gate Park.
