Rivian and Uber are coming together to take on Waymo and Zoox in the robotaxi wars. Uber is investing hundreds of millions of dollars into Rivian to bring self-driving Rivian R2 SUVs to San Francisco. The goal is to roll out vehicles in San Francisco by 2028 and thousands more across the country in the future. Seems like a smart play for both of them. Uber doesn't have to invent their own car and their own autonomous vehicle software. Rivian already has the car and has been working on that technology for years. And Rivian can leverage Uber's already existing massive customer base instead trying to create their own. Definitely curious how it all shakes out, and we'll certainly be trying one when they become available.
