Huge news in the San Francisco development world. Construction officially started in October on the first apartment complex of the Potrero Power Station Master Plan on the San Francisco waterfront's formerly industrial site. The first structure to rise will be an affordable workforce housing complex named the Sophie Maxwell Building, named after Sophie Maxwell, a former supervisor on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who chaired the Land Use and Economic Development Committee. The 84-foot-tall structure will rise from an L-shaped floor plan with 83,000 square feet and 105 units that are expected to be completed in 2025. Project developer Associate Capital has been been pushing the master-planned development through the requisite planning and approval stages over the past decade and finally secured approval back in 2020. It looks like the developer is well on track to complete the first phase of the 29-acre mixed-use development that will include 2,600 new housing units, 1.6 million square feet of new office, lab, and retail space, and a 250-room hotel.
