The independent music powerhouse behind stars like Kendrick Lamar, Shaboozy, and Anderson .Paak just made a bold move into San Francisco's real estate scene. Empire Distribution just acquired the historic One Montgomery Building in San Francisco's financial district for over $20 million. The 1908 building was originally a 12-story headquarters for the former First National Bank, whose previous headquarters was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. The top 10 stories of the building were removed in exchange for rights to develop the much larger Post Montgomery Center in the 1980s, and the iconic 100,000-square-foot historic building is now set for a major creative transformation under Empire. The prior owners actually had plans to convert it into creative office space, but the pandemic put a wrench in those plans and they eventually surrendered the building to their lenders. Really excited to see how Empire transforms this space. Let me know what you think in the comments and follow me for more Bay Area real estate.
