The Sequoia Cinema in Mill Valley, closed for months, has reopened under the California Film Institute with new bathrooms, sound system, and a brighter lobby. Plans are filed to expand from two screens to four by adding a lower level and second story.
A nearly century-old theater in Mill Valley has reopened after months of renovations and a transition of control to the California Film Institute. The Sequoia Cinema on Throckmorton in downtown Mill Valley reopened after months of construction, new bathrooms, new sound system, and a brighter and fresher lobby. And that may not be the end of the renovations in 2022. The California Film Institute filed plans to dig out a lower floor and add a second story and change it from a two-screen theater to a four-screen theater. We'll see if the full renovation plans come to fruition, but at least for now, residents and visitors can enjoy the historic theater in the art-centric Mill Valley.
