Austin Klar walks through the $2 billion redevelopment of San Francisco's former Potrero Power Station. Phase 1 delivered affordable housing and a UCSF cancer research facility. Phase 2 will add 1,400 residential units, 1.3 million square feet of commercial space, and new parks near Mission Bay and Chase Center.
Chapters
A defunct power plant is being turned into one of the most ambitious new mixed-use communities in San Francisco. And the unique thing about this development, it's actually moving forward. The Vitero Power Station development helmed by Fifth Space, formerly known as Associate Capital, has already opened an affordable housing complex, and UCSF is in process building a state-of-the-art cancer research facility there. And the developer's getting ready for phase 2 of the redevelopment, which will include infrastructure work that will support all the remaining buildings. It'll eventually include the creation of over 1,400 homes, 1.3 million square feet of commercial space, and massive, new parks and open spaces. It's in a great location near Mission Bay, Mission Rock, Chase Center, and UCSF, and it has great transit connection. Excited to see more progress at the site.
