This is the most exciting housing project going on in the Richmond right now. An historic theater that's been vacant for the past 20 years is on its way to becoming brand new condos. Developer Timespace Group, architect G7A, and landscape architect Fletcher Studio are pushing forward with plans to convert the Alexandria Theater at 5400 Geary Boulevard into an 81-foot-tall structure with 83 condos, 10 of which would be deed-restricted affordable housing. The 1923 building was initially designed by the Reed Brothers and used as a theater until it closed in 2004, and it's been vacant ever since. And it looks like they're gonna be doing just justice to the building's heritage. They'll be retaining original murals and light fixtures and bringing back a number of original details that were demolished over the years. Love the idea of reusing an iconic space for housing, especially one in a location like this close to the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. Let me know what you think of the project in the comments and follow me for more San Francisco real estate.
