MAJOR Environmental Cleanup Begins at San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf

In this video, Austin Klar reports that Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has begun a large-scale environmental remediation at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf after a decade of planning. The cleanup targets contamination left by a defunct gas manufacturing plant originally opened by the San Francisco Gas Light Company in 1899, taken over by PG&E in 1911, and shut down in the 1930s. Although the site was previously thought to be fully remediated, contamination was rediscovered about ten years ago, prompting a new effort. The remediation covers roughly four acres between Pier 39 and Pier 43.5 and is projected to take about four years, making it one of the largest recent cleanups on the city's north side. Klar concludes with a hopeful note about the timeline, invites viewer comments, and encourages following him for more Bay Area real‑estate updates.
