MASSIVE Skyscraper Proposed Near Downtown San Francisco

In this YouTube monologue, Austin Klar reports on a newly proposed redevelopment of the Bluxom and 6th site in San Francisco’s SoMa district. The parcel was originally entitled for 1.1 million sq ft of mixed‑use space, including 775,000 sq ft of office space to be built by Alexandria Real Estate and TMG Partners. Pandemic‑driven office market weakness stalled that plan, though Alexandria Real Estate (ARE) still holds an ownership stake. TMG has now teamed with investment firm Strata, leveraging recent zoning changes that permit higher residential density. Strata’s proposal would split the lot into two parcels and construct two large towers delivering roughly 1,500 residential units, of which 150 are earmarked as affordable housing. Klar frames the proposal against a backdrop of a rebounding office market and a critical citywide housing shortage, inviting viewers to comment and follow for more real‑estate updates.
