Align Real Estate is building a 25-story tower at Marina's Safeway with 800 apartments, a new grocery store, and underground parking. The city approved streamlined review, meaning design decisions must wrap up by August 2026. That's fast for a project this size.

The Monster Marina Safeway redevelopment project is officially one step closer to reality. Align Real Estate made headlines last year when it proposed a 25-story mixed-use development at the Marina Safeway that would replace the existing grocery store with nearly 800 new apartments on top of a brand new Safeway and an underground parking garage. And after a lot of back and forth with the city and the community, the planning department issued a notice conditionally deeming the project eligible for streamlined review under state law. Based on this determination, it means that the planning department will have to complete design review within 6 months or by August of this year. Feels like a long ways away, but for projects of this size, especially with the amount of community involvement this one is going to have, that's really fast. Let me know what you think of the project in the comments and follow me for more San Francisco real estate.
