The only private island in the San Francisco Bay just hit the market for $25 million. Red Rock Island is a vacant, hilly island about 6 acres large near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, and it technically sits in 3 separate counties, Contra Costa County, Marin County, and San Francisco County. The island has been quietly marketed over the years for between $5 million and $22 million, but it just came on the public market for the first time ever with a bang, $25 million bucks. In the 1800s, the island was used for mining manganese, which is why the island has that reddish hue, and there are apparently still abandoned mines on the island. Developing anything on the island will be a huge huge headache, super expensive. Not only do you have to ship the materials and the labor, you have to navigate the planning departments of all 3 of those counties, and you also have to deal with the Bay Conservation Development Commission. Let me know if you'd ever live here in the comments. [FOREIGN LANGUAGE]
