Crime is down so far in 2024 in San Francisco except in one neighborhood. That's what a report from the San Francisco Chronicle claims based on reported crimes data from the San Francisco Police Department. The first 4 months of 2024, the number of reported crimes fell on average 30%, with the most notable drop in property crime. Interestingly, the one neighborhood showing the opposite trend was Noe Valley, which is usually one of the most family-friendly and peaceful neighborhoods, had a 15% increase over that same period. Now, they are working from very, very low levels, so even a small increase in the number of reported crimes will have an outsized effect on the percentage increase. Other more dense neighborhoods like North Beach and Fidei in Soma saw noteworthy declines of over 40%. Looks like the department's crackdown on retail theft and operations to reduce smash-and-grabs are working and doing their job. Hope the city keeps up the great work.
