San Francisco's $71 Million Chinatown Plaza Gets MASSIVE Upgrade!

In this YouTube segment, Austin Klar introduces a $71 million renovation of Portsmouth Square, the historic public plaza at the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown. He outlines the square’s origins in the 1830s, notes that its last major overhaul was over two decades ago, and explains that the Recreation and Parks Department opened formal bidding in March for the upcoming project. The renovation will add flexible outdoor space, an 8,300‑sq ft community clubhouse, a fitness center, upgraded lighting, new seating, landscaping, removal of the pedestrian bridge over Kearney Street, and waterproofing and drainage improvements to the underground garage. The park is slated to reopen by early 2028. Klar invites viewers to follow his updates, promises a future tour of the completed plaza, and asks for comments on the plans.
