San Francisco's Best Park Is Getting 200 New Homes!

In this YouTube monologue, Austin Klar reports that the Presidio Trust is launching its first new housing construction in the Presidio in over two decades. The project will add 200 market‑rate apartments—primarily studios, one‑ and two‑bedroom units—spread across 4.5 acres and six new buildings, a shift from the existing 1,400 homes that are mostly three‑ to six‑bedroom units. Rental income from the current Presidio homes already funds roughly one‑third of the park’s operating budget, and the new development is intended to bolster that revenue stream to sustain the park. The site currently houses a parking lot and two non‑historic structures (one vacant, one used for police storage). David Baker Architects are designing the buildings to blend with the Presidio’s Mediterranean‑Spanish architectural character. Construction is targeted to begin in 2027, and Klar promises to provide ongoing updates, urging viewers to follow him for future information.
