What's happening at this iconic San Francisco landmark is an amazing sign for San Francisco's comeback. The San Francisco Ferry Building recorded its busiest first few months of the year in its history with a record 2.5 million visitors, a 23% year-over-year increase from the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same time last year. A big part of this is due to employees coming back to the office and new jobs in the area, but also a swath of new restaurants opening at the space from the revamped Fatted Calf Butcher, a brand new seafood concept called Nopa Fish, a new restaurant and bakery from the team behind Michelin-starred Sorrelle, a new cheesecake Outpost by Nash Bakes, and an Italian spot from the team behind A16, and so many more things to come. The building opened in 1898 as a transportation focal point for anyone coming to the city by train and ferry. Over time, as mass use of cars was adopted, traffic diminished, and a lot of the building was converted into office space before it was entirely redeveloped and turned into the space we know and love today. I'm so excited about all the incredible vendors at the Ferry Building, new and old, and looking forward to seeing continued recovery of the city.
