An historic movie theater is getting a major upgrade, and I can't wait to see it when it's done. Alamo Drafthouse is planning to overhaul the New Mission Theater over the next several months. The Reed Brothers built the original theater in 1916. It was redesigned by Tim Pfluger in the 1930s. It's been a nationally registered historic landmark since 2001, and it's about to enter its next phase. New seating, new flooring, new kitchen, a whole overhaul designed to get people to go see things in theaters instead of watching at home on their couch. And all of this on top of the brand new projection system it got earlier this year. The renovations will take place across multiple phases, It'll remain open during construction, and the goal is to have it all done by the theater's 110th birthday in May.
