Are we finally about to get new housing at this abandoned car wash in San Francisco? A 186-unit apartment complex at the touchless car wash site at 400 Divisadero Street was abandoned by its developer in fall of 2022 after spending years in the planning process, claiming sluggish rents and rising costs. But it looks like an Irvine-based developer recently submitted plans to the city to revive the project. This time, the plans call for a larger building, 203 units with a mix of 1 and 2 bedrooms, and 23 affordable units. That's a smaller number of affordable units than the prior project contemplated, but if it helps the project pencil out, I am all for it. The reality is developers aren't charitable organizations, so if we want things to get built, things have to pencil out. Follow me for more Bay Area real estate.
