San Francisco's Embarcadero Plaza is one step closer to getting its long overdue makeover. The owners of the Embarcadero Center office towers are collaborating with the city of San Francisco to turn that area with the concrete tube fountain into a 5-acre park and plaza space twice the size of Union Square. BXP, the owners of the tower, have been working with design firm HOK on what this park might look like. And until recently, it's all been conceptual, but the Board of Supervisors just unanimously approved legislation that would call for BXP to invest $2.5 million into the design of the park space, another $15 to $20 million in public funding, and another $10 million in private funding to bring this to life. I think it is long overdue to reconceptualize this space and make it somewhere that people actually want to go. And these renderings look pretty cool.
