There's no other neighborhood undergoing more transformation right now than San Francisco's Central Waterfront, and the latest news there is huge. The developer of the Potrero Power Station development, which is a former power plant turned multi-billion dollar mixed-use community, is breaking ground with a brand new cancer treatment center with UCSF. The 300,000 square foot facility is set to take about 2.5 years to complete and will be open to patients as early as 2029. UCSF paid about $75 million to acquire a 50,000 square foot parcel at the site, and anticipated costs are expected to reach around $400 million to complete construction. The 8-story center will include clinical space, incubator space, and room in the basement to store the 150-ton gantries that will deliver the therapy. Legendary architects Herzog de Meuron are helming the design, and if it looks anything close to what the renderings look like, it's going to be a welcome addition to the site.
