China Beach's bathhouse is finally getting its long overdue makeover. In 2021, it was announced that China Beach was undergoing significant renovation starting in 2022. Phase 1 of the project, which included shoring up of retaining walls and drainage infrastructure, as well as new parking and an access road, were completed in 2024. But plans to renovate the bathhouse and lower terrace, even though they've been fully funded, they've been delayed for years. That's all about to change as construction on the $11 million project is finally set to begin by May of this year. The bathhouse exterior will be restored and repainted, new restrooms and Rinse-off stations are going in, they're sprucing up the sun deck, and adding picnic tables and other amenities as well. The bathhouse was built in 1957 and sits at an incredible site with stunning views surrounded by some of the most gorgeous homes in the city. The site is so beautiful that it may soon become an historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I'm excited to see what it looks like when it's all done.
