Austin Klar examines opposition to a proposed 22-story housing project in San Francisco's Outer Sunset that would add 446 units, including 207 affordable senior apartments. Thousands of residents signed a petition against it, citing concerns about light and noise impacts on the nearby San Francisco Zoo. Advocates argue the low-density neighborhood near Golden Gate Park should accommodate more housing.
Well, this is gonna shock literally nobody. Some residents in the Outer Sunset are gaining traction on a petition against a 22-story housing development proposed in the area. The 446-unit development near the Slope Garden Center was proposed late last year with a mix of 239 market-rate condos and 207 affordable units for senior citizens. But thousands of locals have joined a petition expressing concerns about recent upzoning in the area. They're also concerned that nearby animals at the San Francisco Zoo are gonna be impacted by the additional light and noise from this development. That's one I haven't heard before. On the other side, advocates believe that the Outer Sunset is ripe for upzoning and more housing, given low density in the area and proximity to great amenities like Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach. Let me know what you think of the project in the comments and follow me for more Bay Area real estate.
