Luke Murray argues procrastination stems not from fear of failure but from fear of the feeling itself. We avoid tasks to escape the anticipatory dread, the same way hunger drives us to eat. This applies to posting videos, asking for raises, or any action that triggers that emotional discomfort.

So the reason you procrastinate isn't because you're afraid of failure. It's because you're afraid of feeling fear, and that's what drives your behavior. Just like when you are hungry, what drives your behavior is hunger, or when you are— you feel a different way, that is what drives your behavior. It's not the acquisition of the food or the food that really is what is driving you. It is the anticipation of the acquisition of either of those biological impulses, and that's in positive direction. In the negative direction, it is the anticipation of something bad happening, which is the fear of experiencing that fear that you are avoiding, not the actual act of putting yourself up on YouTube or talking to that girl or asking for that raise or going for the sale with whatever prospect you're talking to.
