How do you destroy the obstacles that inevitably come up on your march to greatness and Personal freedom. Obviously, you've probably been through enough in your life now that you realize, I mean, you can make all the plans in the world, you can have your purpose figured out, you can know exactly what your next step is and then suddenly you get thrown a curve ball by life. And how do you deal with that? How do you keep going and maintain your strength, maintain grace and personal power even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty or turmoil or bad luck? Also, we'll talk about, well, how do you learn faster? What are some simple basic principles to understand if you're going to learn a little bit faster? I believe if you can learn faster and more deeply in any given area that you want to master in your life, then clearly you will achieve more and more quickly. And then finally we'll talk about, well, what are the 10 critical skills you must have and at least begin to master for lifelong momentum and acceleration? Let's jump into it. First and foremost, you've got to remember that obstacles need to be framed carefully. A lot of people have an obstacle in their life and they make it this big permanent, scary thing so they never deal with that, they just avoid it. And, you know, avoidance might be a convenient short term strategy to feel comfortable, but it's also a long term strategy to ensure suffering. Right? So avoiding the obstacles in our life isn't necessarily the best strategy over the long term. So what's the best way to look at an obstacle? Well, the first way to look at an obstacle, the way that I approach it is every time something crashes in front of me or interrupts my charge where I'm going. I want to get very aware about it and introspective about it. And I want to ask this question, is this obstacle a message from God, the universe, the cosmos, other people, luck, fate, the world? To redirect myself. Meaning is this thing that got placed in front of me, is this saying, is this like, is it a hint? Is it a series of things that have happened now in a row, that saying, maybe, brendon, you're on the wrong path or you're approaching it in the wrong way. Maybe change your approach, Brendon. Or maybe you need to pause for a moment and learn a few more things before you keep going. Or gosh, it's been disaster after disaster after disaster with this person and this person keeps becoming my obstacle. Maybe my job is to stop my activities with this person. Go on over here and go around them. Right. I just have to ask, am I getting a hint here? And I think that's very important. For us to recognize hints, coincidences, intuition in our life, especially as we start achieving more, because we start to understand people better, we start to understand ourselves better, we start to understand our path forward better. And in that process, we get to develop a greater level of does this feel right or not? An intuition or a sense that we can't quite explain. So I watch for that. Quite often. More obstacles pile up in front of me. I go, why are these obstacles here? And I'm never fatalistic about them. I'm saying, the universe is out to get me. No, it's not like, oh, God is mad at me today. No, no, that's not the way I persuade. I just say, am I getting a hint to learn more or to change my direction or my approach or to clarify what I need or. Or show up in a different way? I take it as a learning point, not as a forever obstacle. And that also brings in the second way of looking at it. Almost every obstacle I look at, I see it as a growth challenge, not as something that is fatalistic and horrible and means I should stop. I go, okay, well, that's a big obstacle. Who would I have to grow into to be able to deal with that? What new knowledge, skill, ability, talents would I have to bring to fruition? How could I change my own approach or amplify the best within me to deal with this obstacle? Or how could I discover something about myself that doesn't even see that as an obstacle anymore? Most of the obstacles that people actually encounter in their life outside of what I would consider social tyranny, right? Political tyranny, social tyranny. Tyranny from governments or formal structures that literally do hamper them or push them down. Most of the obstacles we quote, unquote, see in our lives are invented. They're invented from our mindset. They're invented from our fears. We go, oh, no, this is so terrible. And that's not a really. That's not an obstacle. That obstacle you could get over in a day if you just took action. Instead, you're blowing it up in this very big thing that is stopping you. And so part of the reframe of an obstacle is saying, what am I allowing here? Am I allowing that problem to be bigger than myself? Am I allowing that problem to be so big that I won't take action and chip away at that thing, even if it is big? You know, some people just stop. And I think that's very unfortunate thing. Successful people think when they see an obstacle, they say, okay, but how big is it? And Then they start chipping away at it, or they move around it, or they go over it. But they never allowed the obstacle to be bigger than themselves, because in their own mind, they're like, I can grow the knowledge, skill, talent, or ability to deal with that. And they're great at minimizing obstacles. Everyone around me, I've always been sudden. They're like, oh, Brendan, what do you think about that? And they start freaking out. I'm like, I'm sorry, do you. You think that's a big deal? You think that circumstance right there is a big deal? Let me tell you about the time I went down to Mexico and I was doing some volunteer work, and I went to this dump where they dump garbage from the local city there. And I met all these kids who lived at the dump who's literally, day after day, life, reality was scavenging through the dump to find food to feed themselves and their family and maybe something they could sell as a trinket somewhere. That obstacle you think is so big is not an obstacle. Most of the obstacles and problems we blow up in our mind today in the modern, abundant world, those aren't really that big of a deal. And we blow them in a big deal because of our ego or social expectation about how we should be perceived. But most obstacles, frankly, aren't really obstacles. They're just things that need to be dealt with. And we're the ones that overlay the drama to them, that make them appear so large. I meet people all the time. Well, Brendan, you don't understand. I almost didn't make my mortgage, okay? Lots of people have faced that. I mean, we should never get in the place in our lives where we really believe our circumstances are so unique that we can't remember that most people have dealt with that too, in some way, and maybe we could ask for some help. And now that obstacle is surmountable because we can get some people who are gathered around and say, oh, I've dealt with that too, kid. Here's what I did. Go this direction around that thing, or scale it this way. Or don't forget, it's not that big of a deal. Just because it feels like it right now, that our growth as the way we grow as human beings. I always believe the bigger we grow as human beings, the more we expand our consciousness, the smaller all these obstacles and problems get. You should see me. I mean, it is really hard to get me freaked out, angry, upset, or scared about anything. Not just because I've seen a lot in my life and I've Been blessed to see a lot. And not because I've coached literally thousands and thousands of people, either one on one or groups. Not because I've trained millions and millions of people and I've heard their comments and they've told me what they've done, but because I just believe in a higher power. I believe that that thing in front of me has been placed there so I can learn and grow in this lifetime. That's all. So I don't freak out about it. I'm like, oh, okay, time for me to deal with that, I guess. Life has said, deal with this, Brendan. Cool, let me see if I can do it. That's all that is, that growth mindset that says the obstacle is not that big of a deal. Next. I think this is very vital. Never, no matter what, make the obstacle your identity. A lot of people, when they fail, they go, I'm a failure versus seeing their efforts not working out the way they anticipated. And when you say, a lot of people say, well, Brendan, I have failed and I have failed and I failed. And then you could just see them beating themselves up in the face. I'm a failure, Brendan. I'm a failure. You don't understand. I'm a failure. No, you're not a failure. You just haven't done enough right actions yet to get the result you anticipated, that's all. You're not a failure. Nobody is a failure. I don't care how many times they failed their personhood, their identity is not a failure unless they accepted life's problems, challenges and obstacles as part and integral to who they are. Right? Some people say, well, you don't understand, Brenda. I'm a bad luck magnet. No, you're just emanating bad thoughts over and over and over about who you are. In a sense, that's given the identity that you're a magnet for bad luck. No, you're not. That's a horrible way to think. The reality is you've just taken life's knocks and nicks and punches and redirects as a personal insult or a personal failing. And they weren't. Maybe your behaviors and your habits and your mindset sucked. Maybe the thing you tried didn't work out. That has nothing to do with next time. Next time again, say, what would I have to change? How could I approach this in a different way except from a place of confidence that your identity, that you are truly, believe it or not, a gift to the world out of 7 billion people on the planet, you are unique. Your circumstances are not unique, but you are unique. And now your job is to recognize that and celebrate that as who you are. Not from an entitled egoic place, but from a place that says, okay, you know, I am special, I'm different. And so knowing that, I'm going to deal with this in my unique way and try to learn from other people. But the more problems that stack up on your life, and they will, you know, the greater you go for making a difference in the world, the more criticism you're going to face, the more obstacles, the more judgments, the more people slamming doors in your face or insulting you. It doesn't get easier. The more you succeed. The reality is it just gets different. And so the question is, how are.
You going to show up?
Are you going to show up in a place that says, I can handle this? I might not know what that obstacle is. I didn't anticipate it, but I can handle it. The person who I am is strong enough to. To believe in myself. The person who I am is strong enough to know that with enough time, effort, energy, focus, seeking of assistance, that I can deal with this. And you will. You will deal with the obstacle, but you are not the obstacle. The challenges, frustrations, and the failures, those aren't you. And once you can accept that, to accept that there is an outer world and there is an internal world and that lots of stuff happens in the outer world that's not of your command and your control, your only thing is how are you going to react to that and what are you going to bring to the world each day? That's your choice. Your identity can be separate than the world's disasters. And once you can do that, you can say, oh, okay, what can I bring to the situation to improve it? Or how can I approach this in a way that's healthier for me or for other people? Or, gosh, I recognize that obstacle sucks, but I'm not going to suck. I'm going to deal with this from my highest self. I think that's one of the greatest growth opportunities we have in our lifetime.
